I m giving consideration to approaching the University where I am currently employed to see if we could hold a rally there.

Students would need to be on some form of break so New year and Easter would be favourite imv. It wouldn't clash with any Quackers rally but may compliment one if Easter were a goer as a pre or post rally.

It would be on a car park, away from night time traffic, but there is a train line that some people might hear but not awful. Numerous internal facilities such as a few 450 seater cinemas, lovely lake, very regular bus services, train to London is 15 minutes walk or 2 bus stops and probably only 40 minutes into waterloo, on site 24 hour security (all defib trained). Electric could probably be set up but would entail a cost. No idea where a black water could go but obviously that would be sorted. Disused railway line nearby, coffee shops and restaurants on site but will be closed. Co-op on site, Big Tesco and hospital less than a mile away.
Toilets and showers 24/7, numerous other social rooms.
Probably looking at 30 vans in the area I have in mind.

Ideal for northerners heading to Spain as 90 minutes from Newhaven,120 to Calais , 60 to Portsmouth and

My questions to you would be

1) interested ?
2) NYE or just after ?
3) 4 5 or 7 nights ?
4) 10-15 pound a night no leccy ?
5) is Electricity essential ?

To give me some ideas if I should approach them could you reply answering the 5 questions, which may become 6 or 7 by the time some questions are asked

Sounds good, we wouldn’t be interested in NYE as it would mean over 60” mile round trip, however if another date fitted in with us either going or coming back from a trip we’d be interested.

1 yes
2NYE
3 4 nights
4 ok
5 no

1. No sorry off to Jamaica New Year, and Quackers for Easter

Why stop at NYE? Why not include summer etc? Plus, do you realise how much work there is for you to do?

Summer wouldnt work as there are many events that go on at a University for which they need the car park, hence I chose dates when i knew it would work.

I am asking myself the question as to the interest of MHF members with 2 positive replies in 30 hours.

I ll knock it on the head this year as maybe hardstanding, secure site with 24 hour security, cinemas, bars, restaurants for 15 quid a night over NYE isnt the way to go.

Would be nice to see something in the South East so yes interested.
Preferably just after NYE in case of family commitments.
5 or 7 nights.
Don't require EHU.
Cheaper the better.

I'd have been very interested in NYE, even though it's only 30 minutes from home, if I wasn't likely to be acquiring my summer beer funds from where every little helps.

I suspect, from knowledge of previous late Autumn through Winter to early Spring rallies that 4 -5 days is maximum without EHU. Even then many will struggle. Relatively few have plenty of battery sufficient to meets their standard use without some top off. OK those who use just light and water pumps will tend to have limited power. The air fryer and other cooking heavy users may have big power banks. All have a duration. A 16A EHU on rally fields isn't practical but basic ehu to trickle charge battery whilst running fridge may become essential. At Shrewsbury NYE meets i think many of us were daisy chained from 13A sockets in one of the huts, fine until someone turned on a kettle.

But particularly for NYE I suspect a meeting venue for a get together is a necessity even if at other times most can do their own thing.

We may be interested in NYE, being as we grew up 15 mins from Guildford could tie it in

That would have been the beauty of the University. Probably 8+ 450 seater cinemas, numerous meeting rooms, 24 hour shower and toilets, I could have arranged Electricity for all without an issue (but a cost) bunged on a NYE party. Tesco just up the road if you had wanted to moonlight.

I have another place (hotel) which is a farm as well, I have provided home brew for his parties before, and he has held rallies on one of his fields that would have been ideal for summer ....... if I can be bothered to ask now, which I probably wont owing to response to this thread.

Edit : And then I see haganap responding !

Maybe I ll give it another couple of days

We might be interested, leccy would be an added attraction but we can manage without.

1. Yes interested, but cannot plan that far at the moment through personal reasons.
2. NYE
3. Depends on factors out of my control.
4. Fee is very reasonable.
5. No, but preferable.

Lots of If''s and but's but should it go ahead, and should things mean I can be there, happy to provide music etc as at Shrewsbury NYE if required.
