We are just over 25 hour hours away from our trip, and have just realised we have not given our advanced passenger information.

Problem - we booked through C&MC and our booking reference doesn't mean anything to BF.

Er - how and where do we put out info in?

Call CAMC first thing in the morning? Maybe you will just be slower on checkin - but I don’t think it’s a knockout. It is however annoying that CAMC won’t answer calls over the weekend - but nil desperandum!

We log into our BF account to do it so your not going to be able to do that. Other than trying the customer service number as the must have your name and details.
otherwise you'll just have to call the club tomorrow. I wouldn't worry too much.

I spoke about this at the check-in the last time I sailed on BF. The reply was you won't be turned away for not completing it but it does save time especially if you have a dog as they have to enter all the details of rabies vaccination date and chip number into the system. The API does have to be completed but if you don't do it yourself it has to be done by BF when you arrive at the port.

The only info I got from C&MC was their reference number - don;t see how I can fill anything in without more details.

I shall throw myself at the mercy of the travel gods at Portsmouth. I'll also get there quite early to soak up any extra time it takes. Assuming my date with the weighbridge goes ok and I don't have to pop back home ...

When I logged on to add our details with DFDS this year it said that they are no longer taking them as our details would be checked on arrival in France (which they were).

Last year we drove off the ferry without stopping.

I don't think it's compulsory. Just saves time at the check in.
It is compulsory.

You will not be getting on the ferry without the details having been checked onto the system.
That said, obviously they prefer that everyone does it way before they arrive.

What they do not want
(and in certain ports, such as Dover where they are unable to handle)
is queues forming, which may take hours to process.
People filling in the details at the port and expecting to be on a ship that departs in an hour or two.

If you read on I acknowledged that.

Also it has to be at least 24hrs before according to BF website

Basically you are doing their job for them by filling in the form before. Bit like self checkout at Tesco. We will be in charge of loading next:ROFLMAO:

I’ve just looked at my booking with C&MC from last year and although we travelled with P@O on the confirmation email there is at the top of the crossing details an operator reference number could this be the information you need. I don’t recall having to go through the club to fill in the API information

Having booked and traveled within 24hrs it's not a problem. As I remember when I've booked our separate returns although they ask I rarely fill it in. They never question you on it.

PIA these days when we used to have to do it years ago once entered with a ferry company or airline you didn't need to do it again. Now you have to enter it for every trip.

Blame those that voted for it, it's what they wanted.

BF have just emailed me asking me to complete our details for Wednesday’s sailing out of Santander. Easily done for me as I have an account & buy direct. Ironically it was sent just after the ferry had sailed out of Santander today, which we watched over a beer, or two 😜. Glad I’m not sailing today, very windy here now and gale force 8 in the Bay later

...and I'm all out of kitkats!
Hope you has a good voyage daventess
If Spain - when you get there (and parked!) go find a local bar and ask for “Vermouth (pronounced ber- mooth) Preparado” that will set you to rights! If it’s made with this stuff - all the nicer. Agur lagun!
If France look for a nice glass of Calvados. Tchin!

Cheers, everyone!
We made it just fine, thanks. No issues checking in at all.

We're happily in sunny Saintes!

Something to be aware of. If you book via CAMC and need to change anything then there is a (at the time for us) a £30 ammendment charge levied by the CAMC. This is on top of the £30 ammendment charge levied by the ferry company. Hence we now always book directly with the ferry company and half the cost of ammendments, its also easier to get in touch.

Book direct with a flexible crossing and no charge to change up to 4 hours before.
Also book return crossing separately so that is flexible as well.

Newhaven / Dieppe with DFDS

We go out in April and return in July

Book in October and get the dates we want at the best price (£180’ish return)

To amend the booking costs £20, plus any price increase (only if required) so it’s a bit like a potential £20 insurance policy, avoiding a higher price booking nearer the time. So far, we have returned on the prebooked date and spent nothing extra 👍

I've just looked on DFDS for our sailing in a couple of weeks and it seems all the details are taken at the port from your passport.

Changes to Advance Passenger Information

Due to the implementation of a Digital Border by the UK Home Office, you are no longer required to use the online submission form to share your API 24 hours in advance of travel. This information will now be collected at the port during check-in when passports are scanned.

We book direct with BF and provided the API some weeks ago.
BF shortly before travel date invite you to pre check in to assist they claim a quicker check in. The pre check in data is exactly the same information given earlier with the API. At check in at the BF kiosk on Monday evening at Portsmouth I queried this with staff. All I got was 'rules are rules' In fact check in took longer than normal. We are frequent travellers without pets so nothing complicated.
Seems to us a pointless exercise the same info twice as they still understandably need to physically check the passport details and confirm facial matches.
