Don't bother lost interest

Thinking of taking my dog to Belfast on ferry as foot passenger then catching train to Republic to get a passport for him. Do they check on the border for pooch passports or ahc? Cheers

From all post on mh fun you won't need a passport just go to Northern Ireland and no checks to go to southern. Thats what we are going to do in August

I think you’d better further investigate whether you can take a dog on a ferry to Ireland as a foot passenger. Definitely no problem if you have a vehicle but the dog has to stay in the vehicle. Definitely don’t need an AHC (at present) and no problem crossing the border.

Looked on Stena website and says not a problem.
If you're a foot passenger, you must pre-book a dog lodge on the promenade deck. Not only can you visit your dog, but you can also exercise them under controlled conditions, and free dog food is available.

Wich crossing are you thinking?
We doing Cairnryan to Belfast shortest crossing and you can use tesco points on stena up to £210 (£70 points), p and o same as stena and Irish ferriees ( unlimited points

Do you save tesco points

Start saving 3 for 1 is worth it especially if you get you fuel there.

Have fun in Ireland Gary, although a lot of car parks at beaches drop height barriers so be prepared

Carpark barriers seem more prevalent in the south although we never failed to find somewhere over a three week period.
Biggest problem is getting rid of rubbish.

For some reason we never struggled with rubbish but we were very aware of keeping an eye out for any waste bins anywhere, and taking full advantage, even decanting the mh bin.

Little and often is the key, larger bags are virtually impossible to get shot of

A lot of people saying to pay for passport is a waste of money

Depends what you want it for to be honest, if you ALWAYS plan to travel within the UK only then theres no advantage, but if you ever stray outside even to the republic ie holyhead dublin (half the ferry time of the liverpool /belfast ferry) then you'd need an AHC each time so it's definitely worth it and of course should you ever want to take the dog to mainland europe, again, so worth it.

If you intend to travel abroad with the same dog in the future it would be prudent to get one whilst in RoI as the cost will be a lot less than another AHC.

With this new Brexit agreement it appears they may be tightening up on taking pets across the border. Our Irish PP cost €35 last year and we've already used it for Europe so no AHC needed - at anywhere up from £85.00!

Of course the ideal solution is for the UK government to get it's finger out and get approved status from the Eurocrats!

All threads diveate from the original topic if your not careful it will end up as a toilet thread :Eeek:
I think being gassed in your motorhome is unlikely in Ireland ....... :reel:
