Can only really comment without the motor home and that would be Western Cape in South Africa, sun, sea, mountains, vineyards, whales, food. Utter bliss.

With the motor home we had one day trip to Huttoft Car Terrace, Skegness....rather lovely as not at all commercialised. Just beach and sea. Balm for the soul.

Oops, just realised by looking at the shadow my timing is out :oops: .... still lovely 'tho :D

Not so funny! we drove our VW Camper across Syria in 1982, en route from Oman to UK. ( A great 6 week journey) Damascus then was lovely, although the civil unrest was still evident.

I spent a month travelling around the South Island and yet although we landed in Picton we didn't turn North to see this place, I'm gutted now.

I've lived in the South Island for 50+ years and haven't been there (yet).

Favourite Places:
Gairloch (North West Scotland) - currently looking at buying a holiday home there
Parga (Greece) - not by motorhome but still a place we love dearly

Syria is/was a beautiful place;

The Grand Mosque of Damascus, known more commonly as the Umayyad Mosque, is one of the largest, oldest and holiest mosques in the world. The tomb of Saladin stands in a small garden adjoining the north wall of the mosque.

The Grand Souk of Damascus. I remember my interpreter pointing out the holes in the metal roof where the Arab rebels fired down on the French, and smaller holes where the French returned fire.

Krak des Chevaliers

Palmyra, featured a lot because of recent news. My experience, I found the place overwhelming.

The Syrian people? I found them really friendly and helpful. The food, beer and Arak all went down well.

It is not my favourite place but I enjoyed my time there.

My favourite places? Without a motorhome.

So many and memories change with my mood. Two that always feature highly are;

California, near Santa Barbara, a Pacific cliff top, sitting drinking cold beer with some good buddies after a great days flying, the BBQ was grilling some rattlesnakes we had killed, while the sun suttled onto the Pacific horizon.

Going-to-the-Sun Road in the Rocky Mountains. An epic bike ride up and a terrifyingly fast descent.

With a motorhome. Arcones in Spain. Wild camping on the Camino Real, slowly getting to know the lady who moved the cows out onto the open plain in the morning, collecting them in in the evening. Pretty soon she would arrive in the morning with a jug of warm fresh milk.

Anywhere that's not here

Morocco in the desert, or Vienna, But allways come back to the Scottish Mountains.
