If you're getting low voltage bleeps from the inverter control panel then I'd be careful
The Carthago control panel seems to alarm at a higher voltage, so I tend to ignore that
Thanks Robert.
I think the beeps are from the Carthago panel as the load comes on and the voltage drops.
Like you I think I might just go deaf and ignore it.
At least the batteries will give me less grief than the Memsahib does when she doesn't get her frothy coffee in the morning. :cautious::LOL:

Hi Richard we used to run ours on two 80ah without beeping so again I would ask how thick and how long are your 12v supply cables,
Thanks Martin
The battery locker is one side of the hab door and the inverter is the other side so about 4ft cable run plus a bit for bends and connections.
The cables are hefty and it was all fitted by that well known emporium near Taunton so should all be adequate.

Richard.

First moho 11/2013, second 11/2014 current from 09/2019.
I have done a bit of testing.
Here are the display panel readings before any coffee antics.

And the reading on the inverter.

After the approximate time of two minutes of the inverter bleeping the readings change to (after the coffee machine is turned off).

If I continue to use the coffee machine will I kill my two 125ahr batteries?

I wrote a long winded post and then realised that my photos we all the wrong order. Tried to delete the post but ended up with a 'fullstop' as I could not see how to delete the post completely.

Hopefully my photos now make more sense.

@Mr Mousy There is 2 volt difference in the battery volt reading and the volt reading at the inverter so again I would suggest that for starters the inverter cables may not be up to the job, are they the size of your little finger? And how long are they?

What sort are your two 125ah batteries?

So do you know the voltage displayed last night? With nothing switched on
You clearly have a voltage issue as the inverter was only producing 203 volts under load not 230

I have hardly ever tasted a decent coffee from a pod machine, so I have no idea what the fuss is all about. To me they are rubbish. I have a cheap (£18 or so) Hayden espresso machine (using real ground coffee not plastic tubs of obscure origin or variety) which quickly makes a wonderful espresso in just a couple of minutes, using very little leccy, and is in the very variety I really like. (Presently Lidl Guetamala.) When made, you simply and immediately tap out the hot grounds, which come out cleanly, leaving little residue which can be quickly rinsed out ready for the next cup. Plus you can adjust the strength to your taste. It's like reinventing the wheel, using electronics to foul it up. It's just technology for technology's sake. I am willing to be converted, but only when I've tasted a half reasonable pod coffee, on a low cost machine.
Stands back to hear the abuse.

Just bought (well free from an electrical wholesaler whom I know) some 16mm super conductive trii something or other cables to replace the existing ones. Fingers crossed it solves the bleeping problem.

Mrs C forgot to pack the capsules for our Nespresso machine and tbe compatible ones they sell in France taste like mud

I have never knowingly tasted mud but I think I know what you mean. Lots of coffee sold in France tastes like uck, not just pods.

@Mr Mousy if they were 16mm dia I would say yes "they will do the job", but if they are 16mm2 cross sectional area I would say "don't bother". We have 50mm2 (like welder cable).

Guys, here is the cable specification - do you think they will make a difference? @funflair @Techno

We have this Amazon product ASIN B0009Q1DSS . It works well on induction hob & gas. These are available in lots of sizes - we have the 10 cup one for home use - cup equates to expresso size. Not quite as easy as a machine but close :)
Yes - if you are going for a moka pot then the Bialetti stainless steel models are the best. We have 2. It makes perfect espresso which you can then dilute to get the style of coffee you are after. With the right espresso grounds it tastes as good as any coffee shop coffee, it just takes a little practice.

As Martin said not big enough
Still need to establish the state of the batteries and you didn't answer that
What is the displayed voltage with no load after the solar stops charging

16 mm2 will give at least 5% voltage drop over 2 metres run at 100 amps so depending on your cable run you could loose 1 volt easily.

Too much in my book, as I said before it needs to be as thick as your little finger or around 50 mm2, here is a cable size calculator to play with, use 100 amps equates to just over half your inverter capacity, but a more typical load.

Since the 80s
2 metres of 16mm2 cable carrying 100amps will drop 0.92 volts in theory. That's 100 x 0.92/12 = 7.7%

If you are losing 2 volts there's another bit of voltage drop somewhere not accounted for. Are the crimp terminals good and solid? Maybe the contacts are not tight.

If you already have more of that 16mm2 cable, you could double or ideally triple it up. All that matters is the total cross-section. 3 wires on the positive and 3 wires on the negative will give you 3 x 16 = 48mm2, which is a huge improvement.
