hdvrod - we are planning to do that route in the middle of March so we would be grateful for a report back when you do it. Especially on any alternatives you took.
To any of you who have done this in March we are planning to stop for the night in an Aire around Nevers/Moulins way and then try to do the "mountain" bit in a day and stop somewhere around Millau ([HI]or a bit South[/HI]) the following night. Is that feasible please? Will the Aires near that route be busy at that time of year?
Worth considering stopover at La Couvertoirade as an interesting village

Thank you. Are there any Aires or campsites (open in March) in the area that you know of - the website did not list any

If you cross Newhaven Dieppe on the night crossing it is an easy drive to MILLAU in the day. About ten hours. Excellent route all the way. [HI]Aire in centre of town at Millau[/HI]. You will be on The Med before lunch the next day....BUSBY
Don't know if your aware of this site below, you may find it helpful.

Thanks. I have now found it in my Aires book. But it says it has no water or waste disposal. Is that correct? There is a large car park area by the village with toilets where you can park and there is the official motorhome area 100m down the road which will be open as well.
DO NOT try to find the village by sat nav or you may have problems.
The best access if you travel south on the D55 is a left turn approx 300m after passing the right turn D185, this will take you directly to the village and you will see the m/h area on your right in 100m and the car park a further 100m.

On another note. What is the best place to stop for a good view of the Millau bridge? You can tell I am a civil engineer can't you?
