Finally had enough of struggling to get the Dyson into the 'van - when parked up at home we can't access the habitation door and getting a large vacuum cleaner in through the cab door is a pain!

So - we (think) we need the following features: -

Small, hand held (the flooring is laminate so it's just to pick up the grit)
Mains powered, but chargeable cordless would be OK (had a 12v one - useless - we're always on hook-up anyway)
Attachments for cleaning seats etc. - a brush attachment is a must.
Preferably compact for easy storage.
Decent quality but not over-expensive - it's a nice-to-have not an essential.

Over to you folks, and thanks in advance for what I'm sure will be invaluable advice and assistance as usual!

Dyson Animal, far more suction than G tech. I can confirm this as we had a suck off with a ping pong ball. Dyson won hands down it was as if the G tech was not even turned on. The latest Animal does not supposedly charge from 12 volt but if you buy the charger for the older model and then change the jack plug for one that fits the new model it charges great in the van.

We bought an electric AEG Hoover which is handheld and designed for cleaning stairs, it's excellent in the van, it's small and compact but has plenty of power and easily copes with the dog hair from our 2 Labs.

I've got a Goblin that I bought in 1977 and it's still going strong. And it's orange.

I keep changing my mind over the two on my shortlist.... Dyson Trigger Pro, which I believe replaced the handheld Animal, and the GTech Multi.

When the time comes to buy, I'll probably decide on the flick of a coin (n)

We removed the carpet and have laminate flooring so we just use a brush. We did carry a 12v vacuum cleaner but never used it.
The dogs are only allowed on the seats when travelling and we have covers for that which just need a shake on arrival. Fortunately border collies are intelligent enough to understand that certain things are allowed only under specific circumstances, because they shed like mad.

After many different ones we now have this, Black & Decker Auto Flexi Car Vacuum 12V great really lightweight, we have a 9 metre van and it never runs out of charge. We do have laminate floors so not sure how it would survive in a carpeted van.

SWMBO says definitely the G tech. No question about it and are you going to argue?

Dyson handheld for car & boat WAS on sale at Aldi for £169 last month. I ordered online so as not to be disappointed if they'd all sold out at the store.

Hermes failed to deliver mine: "lost in transit". I got a refund and £10 compensation AND it was still available to order last week. Hermes also lost that one, then found both of them, so the spare has been returned and is therefore probably still available to order (you might want to do "collect" rather than rely on a delivery company).

First MoHo - April 2015
After being "kicked out"... And leaving an expensive re-chargeable Dyson.... I opted for a 12v car vac jobbie... Cos dust pan n' brush was.... Well... Ok.. But naff for dust....

No carpets in Moho.. Bar the door mat ..... All in all works ok... Long lead .... And recently been very useful for skin removal... ;) [ those that read my sudden attack of psoriasis thread will understand that comment ]...

So not all 12v hooooovers are naff... Especially if it's not for carpet... :)

Edit: no where near Dyson prices.... About £30 I think....

Considering the state of a large number of 2nd hand motorhomes around when we were looking last year. Who needs a vacuum cleaner!,I am sure if you used one you'd never sell your vehicle !
Why would a dealer buy one that was clean when some of them clearly prefer dirty ones.....

Joking aside we just took our carpets up and just us a brush, much easier lol

We've got a cordless Dyson (animal I think) but it deals admirably with Bernese dog hair, and keeps the carpets clean. During the winter months we have to use the Vax Carpet cleaner about once a month to clean up the mud that said dog walks into the carpet! :D

Intelligent for sure... and manipulative.. we gave up after being pressured under border collie rule 2.2 .. they keep that seat. Makes em snoozy tho.

We removed the carpet and use rugs now. . Easier to clean and we only need a brush and floor wipes.
