PVC Rear door hinge (1 Viewer)

I have a Citroen Relay panel van conversion. The rear doors only open to 90°. I would like them to open to 270°, or even 180°would do. Is it possible to achieve this by simply changing the hinges or would I have to replace the doors? Thanks for reading.

They usually break the rear door windows (if fitted) when opened back.
There is usually a push button in the door card to release further

You will not have to change anything, the converter may have just covered up the mechanism that at the moment holds it in place. I covered mine up but you should have something similar to the picture below.

Can you relase the stay thats between the door and body, some vans have a release on them?
Or as yours is a self build is the mechanism from the button behind a panel?

I can’t remember what it looks like as I covered mine up 12 years ago, if they have put a lining panel of sorts in then you will need to remove that. There was some kind of release button so that you could override the plastic arm .

Ok, thanks. Yes it's all lined. Will look at taking the panel off when the weather improves. Blowing a gale here in Somerset at present.

You will find a round metal hole in the inside door skin. The button would be fitted into it pushing the release.
The button may be there behind your panel. If not you can buy them quite cheaply and fit them

The top lever shown is the stop release one and on my Peugeot there is a 1" black button in the rear door cover , set about 3" in from the door edge.
If you decide you do need hinges www.coastalmotorhomes.co.uk have 180 & 270 degree ones and may have the release buttons

I can see a round hole just in from the top lever. Does anyone know if these fixings for the door card are covered screws or do they just prise off?

The plastic one carries the wiring for the central locking (cant help with door cover fixings)

The top metal arm in the photo is what controls how far the door will open.
There are 2 types. One will allow full opening (you may break your door windows if you do). With a stop at 90° that needs the button pressing to go further.
The other restricts opening.
When I wanted to fix mine to 90° both type were available on eB. I just put a bolt in the arm.

Right, thank you. I've been able to pull the door covering away far enough to see a hole where the button should be. So if I buy the buttons I should be able to open the doors fully?
Although it seems people are restricting theirs to 90° because of possible damage to windows. Maybe I should leave well alone.

I guess it depends on the size and design of your windows. Ours are flush and come nowhere near the bodywork.

Unless the window is open and a strong wind catches the door as you open it.
That's why I restricted mine to 90°

Not sure I would be trying to open my door 180 Deg in strong wind and would the window be open in such circumstances? If the window was open, I am next to it and can easily shut it.

I only normally open it 180 Deg if I am loading, cleaning or carrying some maintenance. The windows are also on self locking struts so not locked open firmly.

Anyway, the OP can decide the benefit Vs risk.
