It is at the moment. Nothing to say it will stay that way permanently.

UKash was similar for a while but it didn't last. Now it's at best equal to Caxton and usually a couple of cents worse.
They give the interbank rate Nic, that is their policy

Yes I know they do but I'm sure there's something in the T&Cs somewhere that reserves them the right to change this policy.

I'm going to hold on to the Caxton on the basis that it can't do any harm to have more than one option.

Norwich and Peterborough Building Society visa debit card. Nil charges for cash or purchases and you get whatever the rate is on the day. I can also keep an eye on goings on through Internet Banking. We've been so pleased with them that Ginny has just opened a second account just as an extra safeguard as the biggest fear I have is an ATM gobbling the card up!

Edit: I should add that I've never once had the card rejected or not work and It's been used in Aires, ATM's, toll booths, service stations etc.

I can vouch for Revolut as I came back from America the other week and used in over there in 4 different states and worked a treat!

Also I have the supercard from travelex and had no problems using that too.

One might as why I need two cards then, well the Revolut is a pre paid card so you need to add funds into it (easy as 123) and the supercard is simply a credit card (linked to any of your credit cards through the app), both use the interbank rate, so both great.

Looks a bit dodgy to me to be honest, they want to know a lot of details , according to tecnos posts they have his phone number and his bank details, and also a fair bit of his money, and where do they get any profit from if they are just passing money over at the top rates.

It's not dodgy. It's no different to how any pre paid card works.

The answer to your question about how they make money is the same as how every single credit card company on the planet makes it's money: When you use the card to make a purchase then vendor is charged a transaction fee. It can be up to 5% on credit card transactions depending on the vendors bank and card processing set up. A portion of this fee goes to the card company.

I would hazard a guess that a lot of companies have your phone number and bank details!! Does not mean they are dodgy but at Andy says, probably not for you then.

@chaser Why do you think this one is different to or less safe than any other prepaid credit card, or your bank issued credit card for that matter? They all hold similar information about you and all work in exactly the same way.

The only difference is in the exchange rates they give. Most of the pre paid currency cards, Caxton etc, have found a way of offering a better exchange rate than the high street banks. Revolut have found a way, at present, of offering a slightly better rate again.

That's it. Nothing more.

If you think Revolut is dodgy because of the information they hold about you then by the same logic so is your credit card issued by your bank and every other credit or debit card issued by every institution.

Thank @dpsuk999 (y) He found it :D
I'm well happy with it.
You get a virtual card & number straight away but you have to order a real card within the app

Yes, understood; I have watched all the videos and have 15 years of Banking Background, just can't work out how I've only just heard of it. Thank you too @dpsuk999

Evening all
For the last three years have used fair FX without any issues except one gas station in Holland didn't like MasterCard and a couple of times unmanned fuel stops in France other than that worked okay and we top up when the exchange is good.

Travelex is the one I've used in the past but I noticed it wasn't up there with the rest at the top of the exchange rate table which is why I was looking at Caxton and Fair-fx, but so many of you have experienced issues in some form or another.

This Revolut has blown my mind, I was going to be happy with 1.34 exchange and really chuffed if I'd got close to the highest with 1.396, but this thing is 1.41, now I know that is only a couple of pennies but it isn't just luck, they use the banking wholesale exchange rate, I can't see it getting better than that.

My wallet as it stands just now
I keep buying in £100 chunks and so far changed £600
I have €844:69 for my sterling and £200 in hand if I spot a surge.
It's handy to be able to transfer money to anywhere at anytime

I used it in America a few weeks ago and worked a treat, fuel stations, airport even in the casino's in Vegas!! So can vouch it works abroad as intended.

The best feature is you can pick and choose when you exchange sterling for either dollars or euros at it even gives you the rate before actually exchanging!

One other thing. Before you can trade more than £1000 you have to have your identity approved. This can be done within the app and you scan either your driving licence or passport. I struggled with mine because my beard has grown considerably  However mine is ok now as I think they analyse the scans after you submit them so a bit of a delay for me.

It took me a while to get the app to scan my driving licence but finally worked so if you try and scan your driving licence or passport using your camera phone be warned it may take a while! ;)

Also on an iPad this function does not work at all. I have spoken to them and they say it is because it is written for iPhone. The specific iPad app will be out soon, whenever that is.
