Hope to replace the motorhome in April next year we thought we knew want we wanted a Carthago Chic C-Line I 4.9 A Class Fiat 180 3.0L Automatic.

We have been told Fiat are no longer doing the 3.0 litre engine and replacing it with the 2.3 litre 180bhp Euro 6 engine

On a 4500KG motorhome I am thinking it will be underpowered your thoughts please

We could go for old new stock with 3.0 litre engine but we want a left hand drive and no overcab bed so we will have to order it , there is a few in Germany but with the £ falling so fast it might cost more .

We do have a back up plan looking at a Hymer M-LI 620 with the 3L Merc engine something like a 3.0L CDI V6 190hp it comes in cheaper than the Carthago even with a load of factory extra’s fitted .

Not sure if its worth getting the Rear axle full air suspension 5,875 euros any one who has bought a new hymer what would you recommend factory fitted and what was a waste of time if any .

I did read the thread below and some very good points raised

Don't know any of the answers to your questions, but good luck with whatever you get mate. Might catch up with you in Spain this winter for a beer and talk about engines and motorhomes (y)

We have Hymer Exsis i698 4250kg with 2.3 150bhp plenty of power for it even towing a car trailer so I would think the 180bhp would be fine.

Not a problem.
We have an almost identical van, 2015 C-Line 5.0, 4500kg with 2.3, 150bhp Euro 5 and auto box. Goes like the wind.
Just come back from 2200 miles round France including two climbs up into the high Pyrenees and have never struggled through lack of power.
I should add perhaps that I am one of those drivers who can't stand 'dawdling'. Always want to press on when I've got a longish drive ahead and if the van was underpowered it would drive me mad.
Our previous AutoTrail had the 2.3 Euro 4 engine and that was rated at 4.25 tons. It also performed well.

I'm sure you will find the 2.3 more than adequate particularly if it's now uprated to 180bhp.

Richard.

Nice one Richard thats what I wanted to hear I did not want to buy a van then find out later it was underpowered . I read your posts on another thread about your trip sounds like you had a great time.

Thx again for the info will have to have a rethink I do like the Carthago

Ours is 3850kg with the 150bhp 2.3 Fiat engine. Only done 6000 miles so far and the engine is loosening up nicely, plenty of power for our A class.

Our Carthago C-Tourer is 150 hp with the Comfortmatic box and it goes really well, but better still we absolutely love it! You won't regret getting a Carthago.
