Hello Funster friends,

Fireside test of Huawei E5377s-32 MiFi through BT Home Hub 5

My MiFi arrived today so I ignored the instructions and set about making it work.

I do hope Funsters considering buying a MiFi device will find this post useful.

I bought this model (£79.99 from Amazon) because I like the fact it allows me to use local (free) Wifi, think McDonalds etc., creating a second string to the bow thus saving the data allowance on the sim.

Now I am aware once a sim is inserted it starts the clock ticking on the valid-to-from date. With this very much in mind I have only tested the WiFi side of the device today.

I plan to test the sim side of this device on the campsite during our Easter Holiday.

Setting it up is easy -

1. Put the battery on charge.
2. Whilst charging; download the Toolkit App for iPad/iPhone or Android - Program for PC/Mac. (This toolkit shows data used etc - not necessary just useful).
3. Insert fully charged battery.
4. Switch on (press and hold button for longer than you would think)
5. Press then release MENU button until you see WiFi Extender and select.
6. Press then release MENU button until you see Device Info and select.
7. Write down figures and numbers which follow PWD:
8. Re-start MiFI device.
9. On iPhone/iPad/Android/PC/Mac start WiFi and select HUAWEI-0CE0
10. When prompted enter Password (see 7; you did write it down didn't you?) remember to change password to something you will easily remember

As the screen shots below show, the speed loss (overhead) is only 10.7%

I have the E5377 , only used it with sim and prefer EE here in UK normally get 4g as much as 35mbs so a useful speed compared to my BT at home running at 4.8 mbs.
I have also tried 3 sim but always 3G and mostly much slower than EE.
