I really like these vans and a Hymer of this model and age was my first choice but unfortunately a couple of years ago their were like hens teeth. I'm sure some peeps on here will have experience of this van and give advice.

Yeah doesnt appear to be many about - i would prefer a two bench seat set up (one either side of the van) but beggers cant be choosers. The who damp issue scares me the most

Its in the motorhome details , its obviously a mistake so wont be a problem.
Having owned a number of Hymers I would advise that you need to check the wood behind the rear wheels and garage floor as they are prone to water damage.
Also check shower floor for cracks and rooflights for damage as they can be expensive to repair.

Just be very careful. Do not be pressured into paying anything until you have seen the van in person and the log book. There's an awful lot of scams motorhome adverts out there. They often want a deposit before you go to view. Don't get caught.

How exactly do I check the wood behind the rear wheels? is that when im in site and just feel the ground for damp? Or looking under the van?

I’ve got a good van in your budget which will be coming up for sale maybe towards the end of the year, latest will be spring. The ad is on here, it’s a 2002 B544.

Physical check around the garage doors , use your thumb nail or small screwdriver if the dealer isn't watching and have a look at the corners of the garage floor especially behind the rear wheels.
Obtain the vehicle registration off the dealer before going to look at vehicle and check MOT history on UK gov website.
Take someone with you who has experience of motorhomes if you can.

First bit of advise is upgrade your driving license as it will open up what you can consider as your next MH.

Failing that you are looking in the right direction, my advise would be a Hymer B544 with the 2.8jtd engine, we had a B644 with the same engine and it was absolutely superb.

Upgrade the license and then look on Autotrader with the same search criteria and see how it opens up.

How much does it cost these days to upgrade to C1?
Around about £1K, money well spent in my opinion. It just needs to be put into the overall cost of MH ownership and amortised over say 5 years and it then seems quite OK.

I am lucky as I have 7.5 tonne by Grandfather rights.

That Hymer doesn’t look to bad to me.
It would be good to get the reg so you can check mot history.
We have 2001 B584 which is similar size and we have a Fiamma box on the bike rack for extra storage because these type don’t have garages.

Are the pannier lockers right through to the other side like on 644, I think so.

Does your 584 have that outside locker door on the LH side? I think that accesses the underseat storage, the Fiamma box is a good idea.

My only comment is that it is LHD, not a problem for me as the first Hymer was LHD and the Delta Integrale, of course, LHD is a definite advantage on the continent !!

Mine is a Fiat chassis version, it has a pull out storage box in the grey skirt and access hatch to under settee on right side infront of hab door and a locker across the back behind rear wheels accessed from the left, this rear locker has a smaller door on the right on the Alko chassis versions.
Mines also LHD.

3 years to go for me, but then it's only a three yearly medical to pass to maintain the C1 - not quite the same as obtaining it from fresh. Currently saving about £150 a year on vehicle tax on an up-plated PVC, so well worth it.
