I have been ordered reluctantly to fix up some outside lights.
Do you find them tacky or festive

Hi.
There is/was ?,a house in the Somercotes area, near Alfreton/Ripley,that had several Electricity board vans outside for a couple of days before Christmas, then they rigged up a most wonderful display of lights on the outside of their house. They must have had the full co-operation of the neighbours, for the road/street and area, was full of people walking along to see them, especially weekends. Money gathered in "Wishing Wells ?",Went to Charity. Would i go again, yes,if you have young kids, its a Must Do.
Tea Bag.
PS. Never miss a Panto if possible.

errrrrrr....... we do put a few lights outside
and inside as well, but not so many as we used to
as for electric costs, most of our lights are now LED rather than bulbs so less maintenance fitting new bulbs. total cost for the month about £80
mind you i also have to get help with the ladder work now so have to add the cost of a drink putting up and taking down. and i often pick up something new each year too. i dont worry about the expense as it cheers the area up, as a few of us do the lighting up. seeing and hearing the children looking at the lights makes it worthwhile.
most nights we have cars pull up outside or groups walk up from 4:30 or 5:00 through till about 11:00. lights out at 12:15 except new year when its about 2:00. all done on a central time and switch gear. indoors on remote control
tacky? possibly, but it depends on why the display is done and how. to me its pretty and is a nod to the origins of yule/christmas etc

:hardhat:I don't have any decorative lights inside or out. No bloody decorations either. No flippin' tree. I happily accept Christmas presents but avoid giving them at all costs.:hardhat:
Thank heaven its still warm outside, I don't need to get my coat ........
Just Google (images) Trinity Close Christmas Lights and see how a street not far from us does it - we go down there for a walk every year.
It looks fantastic I think,,,,,, wouldn't want the leccy bill though.
Trikeman.
