Has anyone got a satisfactory solution to stop the flap of the hook-up point on the van from banging in the wind. It drives me crazy:eek:

It would drive me crazy too... All the ones I've had before have been sprung... You're making me wonder now if the new van is like yours...

Solutions... Perhaps fit some velcro on the cable and inside the flap?

haven't you got a big one :):)

don't have a problem with ours, or we just sleep more soundly

A cable tie round it when parked would stop it I guess, but there must be a better way (y)

I just remembered without looking. Ours is sprung... Goes in straight not at an angle and is a much smaller flap

I have tried all sorts, elastic bands, Velcro cable ties, string, but because of the angle of the flap they just slide off. Must admit the elastic band worked best, but tend to end up with half a dozen bands half way down the hook up cable.

yes all of my previous had a square flap which was sprung, much better.
I thing our old caravan might have been like yours. Seem to remember it was a pain to disconnect as well. Don't remember it flapping.

Glue velcro inside the flap and wrap part of the cable in the opposite velcro. Even if it doesn't hold in strong breezes it might deaden the noise?

We just put a small strip of gaffer tape on it.. where we are we are regularly getting steady 20-30mph wind with much bigger gusts.. flap stays steady .. (van rocks like a mad one tho)

A small piece of the non-slip rubber matting taped to the inside of the flap. Large sheets available from the Pound place for ? Can't remember the price but it wasn't very expensive :)

I think I'd try a Velcro strap that went around the flap and under the plug, or a fitting like you get to secure your gas bottle

A small square of Velcro on the plug and a small square of Velcro on the inside of the flap - time 1 minute - cost minimal.

Patented.

The spring stopped working on mine a while ago, so as a 'short-term fix' I've used insulation tape to stop it banging overnight when windy (wound around the flap and plug), or lifting when driving (which it's stopped doing recently). I really must get around to fixing it properly one of these days.

Ours has a plastic bag tied around the flap and the hook up cable, although it does occasionally slip down the cable in very high winds after a while. Just need to tighten it up again.

You could make a clip out of Sugru. Amazing stuff. It is like a putty but after it sets it is a flexible rubber. It also acts as a glue...

I was thinking something like the toothbrush option in this video. But you stick it to the flap and have it curl down so that when the cable is in it hook round it.

:sun::Grin:Buy a Burstner then the hook up is inside a locker, cable comes thru a hole in locker floor ( with flap) no problem with wind blowing flap and causing noise

I wrap a length of white insulating tape round the plug and the flap, then when I´ve finished with the hook-up just stick the tape on the inside of the adjacent locker door ready for next time - works a treat!

On my old Hymer, the spring was broken / too weak, I used a couple of small neodymium magnets superglued to the flap and base. I always have a stock of these small powerful magnets. Never had a problem with the flap when using hook-up, but then we very rarely use hook-up anyway.

The only flap problem we have is the bloody outside TV connection as it is fine in the box and when you fit them they twist and the little catch under the flap, doesn't. as you go faster it rises up until pointing to the sky. Did it on the Transit does it, on the merc. Horrid , not, cheap things. I only fitted them to be able to use outside aerial without the window open for the cable.

I had the same issue, so used a piece of flexible garden tie wire, (the coated stuff) twist it around the cable by the van plug so it' always there and when plugged in wrap it around the flap, works for me.
