Hi All

We are in Normandy just now and encountered a problem with our fire. We wondered if anyone can recommend someone we can take our MH to in the Caen area.

The fire is a Trumatic 3002 and the pilot light ignites ok, but once the thermocouple is glowing hot and you let the control dial back up, the fire goes out. It is letting gas through ok as it ignites for a short time and we can hear this still coming out once the flame is extinguished.

On our last attempt we heard a bang so we've not touched it since. Our gas hobs are working and our water heater too. It is an old van, which we think ran off butane originally, though when we bought it, it was using propane. We have converted this to LPG and has been running fine for several weeks. Last fill was in UK, so not using continental LPG. Grateful for any recommendations or help, not sure if our French is up to technical conversations.

Thanks
Michelle & Simon.

Stupid thought but, is the chimney clear .or does it vent directly to the side .?? If it vents out to the side is the cover off the outside vent .or am I on the wrong tact altogether..Roy

We have a chimney on the top, and a vent on the side (possibly for our water heater) and everything looks clear.

Then the only thing I can think of is an air lock in the gas heater system and some how needs to be bled out ...surprised no one more informed had come along to help yet..

Agree about the thermocouple. You have described the symptoms exactly.

Incidentally the 'bang' you heard was likely to be a build up of gas after repeated attempts to light it - don't read too much into it. If you check the instructions you'll find they ask you to leave a break between lighting attempts to avoid it going pop & frightening people.

I'd go with the thermocouple too though I can't recommend anyone in that area to look at it.

I know it's probably a bit late now, but if yo're heading south there is a motorhome repair place in Mayenne called VLRC that should be able to help you out.
