Hi Everybody . My partner had a tragic accident on Dec 1st. And is now a patient in the Furness Hospital , Barrow . She may be there for several weeks or months , before she is transferred to a specialist rehab centre . I am visiting every day , but it involves a return journey of over 200 miles. I'm looking for help/suggestions as to where I can stay in my motorhome until she is transferred. My motorhome is 7 metres and fully equipped for winter and off grid camping . Any help greatly appreciated . Patrick.

There is a site at Grange over Sands, I will check and see if it is open over winter. :xThumb:

Welcome to the site and I'm sorry to hear about your partner, have you asked the hospital about parking in the grounds

So sorry to hear of your predicament. Don't know the area. But hopefully someone will be able to help & advise. Have you tried the hospital themselves, they may have a parking area you could use. Good luck. !!!

Gosh so sorry to hear of your troubles, have you thought of asking any of the local pubs? They may be happy to let you park.

I wonder if a local Funster has space on their drive?

Forgot to say it is very reasonable priced as it is used by seasonal workers at the plant, can't remember much more about it at the moment but could find out more if needed(y)

Are you thinking of the CC site, Meathop Fell? If so, think it is open all year and non-members welcome.

One possibility for off-grid camping I can think of:

Travel from Ulverston towards Bardsea Leisure. Continue past for about 3/4 mile until on a RH bend you can see the sea on your left. If you turn off left at that point & turn left as you face the Bay you can travel a few tens of yards to a potential parking spot. Here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.1601974,-3.0678471,327m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en
It's a place that's popular in summer but very quiet at this time of year.

    Other possibilities exist:

Thanks everybody for your kind words and offers of help and advice. I went to Barrow Police Station this afternoon and they contacted parking services at Furness Hospital who have agreed to let me camp out in the hospital grounds . I need to get myself organised , but should be settled there in the next week . I've got a Pilote van ; so if there are any Funsters in the area please come and say hello ! Thanks again everybody !!!

You must have more sympathetic hospitals tha us Roger.
Ours charge everyone by the hour....including patients if they can't get their car moved.

Hope you find a suitable site and everything works out ok for you partner Patrick

OK, result, let us know when you're "moved in". I have a friend who lives nearby so may visit.
