First time this year abroad to France/Belgium and my wife loved it so I said I’ve got 8 days next August available (shut down) how do you fancy Germany ?
We watched a few YouTube videos mainly Cologne/Rhine only having 8 days.
Her response was, it looks to masculine no flowers!
So any help in suggestions for places to visit mainly small pretty town/villages,
We did visit Alsace region for 4 days this year and it was my favourite place.

If you liked the Alsace then you have to go a good way down Germany to find similar. At least black forest.

We spent 3 weeks in Germany this summer and we enjoyed it. Not the same experience as the Alsace though. The black forest is pretty but doesn't have quite the same feel as the Alsace.

August trip to Germany 🇩🇪 few photos for your wife. I too was reluctant but we needed to drop my son off in Dortmund and collect him a week later in Regensburg so bit the bullet. Loved it.

We love Germany, we nearly always start our European jaunts with a night in a cabin on the Harwich/Hoek of holland ferry which means you can leave work on a Friday evening, be in Harwich for the 11pm sailing, sleep across the north sea and then be in Germany in time for a late breakfast.
This route saves you at least half a day each way in travel time. (It might be worth looking at Hull/Rotterdam given where you are)

I think the Mosel would be a good place to start, or, follow the Romantic Road which takes you through one amazing town after another (It's Romantic architecture, no need for roses!)
The country is so varied there is something for everyone, English is widely spoken, the food is recognisable, and for cycling and motorhoming it's probably the best place in Europe.

A little drinkypoos? ::bigsmile:

We checked at the office a few weeks ago and there's no longer a time restriction for entering the P&R

I have not read the whole thread(excuse being we are on holiday, in cloudy rainy Greece).

It will be interesting how the proposed new rules would apply to us if we moved to France as is possible.

I own house in London(rented out). I have Residency in Poland but not have ownership, nor a rental there.

Could the French government, or rather any Commune, deem the as t my Londonhouse is my residence and any house bought inFra e my second residence?

Alsace is in France.

Know how you feel. My wife also dislikes Germany. Tried it a few times, but it’s still a no from her, and she can’t wait to get back to France.

Only joking. ;)

We love Germany, and if your wife loves the Alsace, she'll love Bavaria. Just don't call them Germans though. ;)

Have a look at these routes.

Stellplatz for overnight stops are in abundance, especially so up and down the Mosel.

Good luck. (y)

Jock. :)

Great link to the road trips, think she might come round to the idea.
Unless we try we will never know, shame we can only muster 8 nights but there will be other years to explore.

Love the Mosel Valley, towns are very pretty and the wine villages also, plenty flowers and look loads of stellplatzes. Love Alsace too for similar reasons. Don't agree that you have to have head to Bavaria to get similar. Rhein Valley also worth an explore, stop off at Rudesheim.

Just need a rough plan of half a dozen places to visit within 200 miles of cologne as that would be starting point.

As I live close to Hull we'd use ferry to Rotterdam after work Thursday so long as its not to expensive!
We use this route twice a year, although just came out via Dover as to late to get a space. If you book as early as possible you normally get a decent price, in May we paid £450 for return crossing for 2 people in 4 berth cabin, if you book a 4 berth then no need to climb up on bunk and it’s only £10 more expensive. We used to take the meals but don’t find them great now, we normally just take snacks on now or buy a pizza at the onboard cafe as it’s decent value.
If you’re a member of the CMC they offer discount, check what they offer then phone P&O as they can sometimes beat or match the cmc.

My wife is the complete opposite 😁😁 if I mention France she would throw a wobbly😳😳
But saying that we went to Strasbourg a few days back and she liked that we did stay on the German side though😁
We then went to a Camping Car aire and that was nice with very friendly lady running the cafe, we are now on another CCA next to a Zoo in the Alsace.

We tried the Mosel. That lasted 2 maybe 3 days, then headed back across to France. German food doesn’t help. It’s terrible. Even the Alsace region was too Germanic for wife.

Agreed Mosel is ok for few days but we like Bavaria and the Alps.
Yes German food is generally shite apart from there steaks in a restaurant 😋😋.

We went to Switzerland for a week and ended up mostly eating in Italian restaurants when not cooking our own meals.

My wife won’t go anywhere else she hates France. We’ve been so many times to Germany we just need to try and keep it interesting. If that means going back to where we’ve been then so be it. We normally travel down to Bavaria across in Austria or Switzerland and back up stopping at nice German towns with plenty of beer, curryvurst and Snitzel. You can’t go wrong that way.
