Probably for our EU friends. I have asked many times as to what happens to foreign plated vehicles at the crossing, can UK ANPR cameras even recognise a non UK plate? and then what are the chances of them chasing up a Polish plumber on his way back home?.
Other than that the new system works well, strangely the southbound bridge is always free flowing whilst the north bound tunnels normally have congestion, bit of a mystery why, maybe its the convoys of escorted tankers that cause a hold up. Its also a mystery as to why they feel the need to close one tunnel at night from about 20.00 on, thereby causing even more congestion.
If they use the same as Boris 's lot then yes they can track any EU plated vehicle down. Additionally the crossing is French run , they have access to the dvla database & a friend managed to aquire a French speeding fine in her name ,
on a vehicle being driven by her son in France, & that isn't registered in her name. & the only way they could have obtained her name was through the Dartford crossing system where it was on her account. I wouldn't trust any of them.
Yes you are quite right about the northbound. It is the escorted loads + normally they shut both tunnels using the lights when they do it. Why is anybodies guess. Unless they expect the explosion to affect both .
It is still a shambles northbound although nephew says you are now only queuing 2 miles back now , which is what it was when I was over last year.
You won't get any improvement until the second crossing is built & opened but that is going to be a complete new motorway toll road , double tunnels with a 70mph limit ( so they say ) & paying.
