We had lovely sunshine in Quend this morning, the temperature raised itself to 20 degrees as we drove to Calais. I couldn't believe how many vans managed to get on the aire, of course, Thursday is a bank holiday ( Ascension Day) and knowing the French, they will take Friday off as well, I think it's expected.
I think Quend has spaces for around 50 vans, there must have been getting on for 100 vans, and the bonus was that the ticket machine wasn't working!
Result, another €7 saved.

Yes, the French always take a 'pont' ( bridge) if bank holiday falls on Thursday or Tuesday to join it on to the weekend.

Well after two days driving we're finally on the Med. First day was a long one, avoiding tolls but getting stuck in every small village and traffic jam. Ended up spending the night on an Aire at Briare on the Loire. Nice site by a canal. The place is interesting, where a long bridge was built for the canal to cross the river. Lovely place if you like walking or cycling!

Yesterday we came down the motorway, mostly free apart from the Millau Bridge, an amazing construction, but what a pity you can't see anything from it!
Stopped overnight at an Aire in a tiny walled village called St Jean le Argeles (?). Site was very basic but worth a detour if your'e interested in mediaeval stuff!

We stopped at Sete for a night a couple of weeks ago, bit of a shock, we expected it to be free but it cost us €9.90. How did you get it for €8?
We did think of going on a bit to the next aire, but it was getting late and a bit of a pain driving through all the town and docks to get there. When we left, we drove east heading for Montpellier and Nimes and passed a lake full of wild flamingoes. Never seen wild ones before, a very impressive sight.
Have a great time.

Have a great trip, if you have bikes with you a cycle ride and picnic are a must on the Canal Du-Midi, if no bikes worth a stroll when you get to Carcassonne. :france:

Tonight's pitch. Room for about 8 vans, well spaced, alongside the canal. And a lovely restaurant, steak again and chips to die for!
