Hi All,
I am beginning to start to think about next years 1st break in France ,June will see us off to Brittany & taking our dog with us.
So I would love some suggestions on good aires , beaches & villages to see , We don't do major towns or cities.
Obviously we've done Dinan ,Fougeres, Carnac, Quiberon, Rose granite coast & several of the peninsulars i.e.Penmarch - Camaret/crozon - cap frehel - Pointe de Raz on previous trips .
We love aires near water or parks for the dog , i.e. lakes canals beaches & rivers.
All help appreciated , thanks in anticipation.

I think you have been there before but any of the Aires around the Presqu'ile de Guerande or Le Croisic.

You've no doubt been before ,I like the area Lac Guerlédan, nice little town and good walks .
Pontivy ,I know a big town but good aire on the other side if canal.
Just up the road I hear St Brigitte is being opened up again next year free toilets and water but no hot showers now .

Most beaches in Brittany do not allow dogs on them.

We had no problems when we took our dog, in Aug/Sept. There are plenty of quiet, wild beaches where dogs can be exercised, as well as a number of others where dogs are allowed before 10am and after 8pm. Our dog had a wonderful time finding crabs among the seaweed! Sorry, I can't help you with aires, because we stayed at acsi campsites.

We visited Brittany this year and perhaps a look at the videos we posted on Youtube might tickle your enthusiasm – www.youtube.com/user/keithchesterfield

As for dogs – there are many deserted beaches even in high season and the coastal paths (Sentier Littoral) are ideal for dog walking on or off the lead.

A couple of examples of the French abiding by the rules --

This one on the St Jacut Peninsula is nice. On the beach and great for foraging for shellfish. 48°35'23.12"N, 2°11'18.97"W. I think we met at the Aire at the tennis club in Dinan a couple of years ago!

Rochefort-en-Terre. Very pretty village and well worth a wonder around. No aire but MH parking at East end of village. You can stay overnight there if you wish.

Locronan. Approach village and Aire from the West end.

Le Faou. Park outside the campsite in Aire
.
Tregastel. Aire on D788 opposite Super U. Nice walks around the shoreline.

Hi Keith,
I would love to see the video's, but my son (young damned upstart my computer I.T. adviser) has put some sort of block on my laptop which stops me viewing video's etc (I wonder why !!!!)
He promises to unblock soon , but never gets around to it.

Val Andre, Sable d,or, North of Lamballe on the coast. Plenty of aires and lovely little villiages.

Actually, I started a list from this and similar postings a few days ago. I've got so many recommendations in this way, I doubt I would have time to fit half of them in. This makes me wonder, is the place full of the dreaded English? We haven't been to Brittany for decades, when we were there last it was very busy, but that was high season. Is it now busy off-season?

For us, dept. 44 Loire-Atlantique. Pays del la loire, Guerande, La Baule and Pornichet has to be my choice. It has everything you could ask for. Don't take my word-google it.

Point de la Torche - big wide beach, not sure about dog access. Nearest aire is St Guenole (no services) - not overnighting allowed by the beach itself.

Another vote here for Le Croisic, although don't expect it to entertain you for days on end. Five smallish aires to choose from, the most handy of which overlooks the marina. The service point is at a nearby aire beside the station, but it's not as pleasant a stopover. Interesting WW2 bunker museum a little way down the road, plus the usual quaint Breton stuff.

Looks like you've already done all the other places I like in Brittany.

I should add that the service point at Le Croisic has water pressure akin to a fire hydrant. Huge slapstick potential, as I discovered :)

Hi We toured Brittany last September mainly staying in Aires.
Our favorites were Erquy, Lampaul-Plouarzel and Quiberon, all sea front aires with facilities.
In Crozon, avoid Camping Trez Rouz not good for us, but when out cycling we found a nice Aire with facilities above Caramet-sur-mer.

There was also a good Municipal site in Quiberon just to the east of the main town by the beach. This is likely to be busy though.
Other Aires we stayed at were Treguier and Rothenuf, near St-Malo
before moving out toward Cherbourg and then Caen. The Ile-de-Brehat area is worth a look to. Stunning

We loved it and will be going back.
Enjoy and safe travels.
