Hi, looking to use the firestick in France, but amazon say me must only used it with a tv which has a 900aA USB NOT a 500aA, does anyone one know how I find this out and what difference it will make. Never used a fire stick, and looking at all problems people seem to have, I wouldn't know what to use instead. Are they easy to use?

My Firestick works fine of tv usb (finlux tv) but I heard they’re best off a better usb for doing updates.

The first time setup is when a Fire TV Stick seems to be the most power hungry.
Just in normal use lower ampage power source is OK

Does the handbook for the TV tell you?

We have a 3 year old Fire Stick which came with a 240 volt plug to power it. Amazon will sell you a new "upgraded" stick which RNs off the TVs usb port. Save money ney and just detach the 240 volt plug and stick it in the back of the TV. Mine works a treat.

What you can watch depends on what broadband you are connected to. There are plenty of threads on that.

Fire TV Sticks tend to be OK after the setup stage.
Is the OP having an issue or worrying about one undiscovered?

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
as with all things, set it up in your house and try it in your motorhome before you leave on your travels. Youre probably asking questions to yourself in your head that will become glaringly obvious once youve tried it.

it really is simple, so dont put additional pressure on yourself by worrying about it.

You won't break anything to try it. The worst that can happen is the FireStick might flake out and crash when it's doing a lot of work. They are robust, so might just need a restart. As others mentioned, this is probably just when it's doing things like installing updates.

We have a 2020 Avtex 19" TV and Firestick. The Firestick works fine off the TV's USB port - and that includes having done software updates and app downloads when out and about using a tethered connection to my phone.

All the current generation, new, Fire TV Stick are noticeably better than older HD versions.
But wait until the range are discounted.

Then, either of the 4K versions are a good step. The dearer 4K Max one has WIFI 6 ready to go - if that's something you can use🤷‍♂️ :)

For abroad, I’m using a RWG phone sim in a Huawei router and watching tv using a 4K Firestick and it’s mean working well .
I do have a satellite dome but at the moment that has an issue, so not working, I’m glad I have the Firestick.
Also with the Firestick you don’t need any subscriptions because there’s enough free stuff available.

I wouldn't bother with 4K version. You'll never notice the difference on a 19" screen and the data usage rate will be much higher. For once, the cheaper option is best!!

I have a firestick 4k on my Cello TV and bought this to increase the power for the USB. Works really well as I prefer to use 12V socket rather than plug into mains with an adapter for the TV. This way it eliminates the need to use the Amazon USB plug into the mains for certain updates.

Mission USB power cable.
Amazon product ASIN B078KSHVCSPhil.

When they’re on sale, the 4K Fire TV Stick is not much more than the best HD only option.
Looking today though, there’s been a price hike on them.

I’d wait for a sale.
Or if you don’t have or plan to have Amazon Prime, look at the similar Roku range:

FWIW, there’s likely to be a Prime Video app for Roku. TBC

You don’t need 4K stick but they have better processors I believe

And possibly more power efficient. Also likely to have a longer support life.

So yes, there are advantages to getting the better units beyond the higher resolution that you won't be using.

Yes, the 4K stick is faster, & seems to pick up signals better I think? Any will fit your tv - had two Avtex tvs - an old one (2011] & a brand new one - and have just plugged a Firestick in & it works - always plugged into usb. As long as you have data (from phone, wifi or MiFi) it will detect it & play (after you’ve put the wifi password in)!

many many years! since I was a kid
The 4k max is much faster processor and better wifi. You definitely don't want to run it at 4k in the van though. Just go into settings and choose a lower quality stream. What this means is that you will be downloading much less data. However on a small screen you will not see a difference.

We’re on to the 3rd Generation of HD Fire TV Stick (available 2020) and it also has the power benefits of the quad core CPU fitted in the 4K Max FS Gen 1 (2021) and 4K FS Gen 1 (2018)
The 4K Max gets a 0.1GHz CPU advantage to them.

It could be the extra DDR RAM the 4K Max has helping with any marginal performance gains. 0.5GB more than the 4K or 1GB more than the HD only gen 3 version.

The Fire TV Sticks that are noticeably sluggish in menus are the old generation HD sticks. So, if buying 2nd hand, look out for those old sticks.

Lots of spec details and identification pics here:

Yup bang on. We do the same. As said above it appears they need a little more juice on start up and this acts as a buffer

Anyone got any iteration of Firestick to operate the volume on the Avtex tv by using the Firestick remote?
