Tidying up the wiring under the bonnet, when I traced 2 wires down behind the front grill and then crossmember and found this simply dangling at the end of the wires, behind the bumper.

I'm guessing it's something like an ariel or antenna, but whatever it is, it's full of rusty water and permanently sealed.

Anybody come across one before or anybody know exactly what it is. I traced the wiring back again and it heads from the engine compartment into the cab, but can't locate where it originates from.

The item is on the right in the pictures, the other part being padding and an old sticky pad that had meant to hold it in place.

Thanks in advance:)

Weird, but as an off the wall guess it might be an aerial for a tracker.

looks like a GPS sensor to me, had something similar with the dash cam
Thanks, it might be something to do with a tracker of some description, but don't have either a tracker or GPS fitted to my knowledge.

Snap!!

Thanks.
Trackers are not meant to be found. :) If the aerial is under the bonnet then I suspect that is where to look. Look under the wings behind the bulkhead for which you may have to remove the headlights but I'm not sure if you will be any better off if you find it. Just tape it off and be grateful some big brother somewhere is looking over you!

I ve tidied it up and secured it, but I need to know what it is I case I need to replace it. The amount of rusty dirty water that poured out, means that whatever it is, then inside will be a mess.

Thanks.

Air temperature sensor?
My first thought also.
Too big for a GPS or Tracker antenna and would expect a single multicore round cable, not a twin flex.

Only real way to know is trace the wire back to its termination point under the dash, which I suspect will just be taped up if not just cut off.

Pffft ! Beaten to it again

Oops. Removing the sticky pad will have activated the tracker:

If you don’t (think you) have GPS or tracker, but do have an external temp readout, try warming the device up and seeing if the readout changes. Or, if the readout never changes, it could be a broken temp sensor.

You could test to see if it is a temperature sensor, you could waft a hair dryer at it and see if the air temp readout on the dash increases.

If it is a temp sensor the wires will go in to the main loom somewhere.. But given a temp sensor is usually smaller than a biro cap I suspect it is not..
Tell you what it looks like to me.. some kind of buzzer/sounder

What about an alarm movement sensor? Just a wild stab in the dark!

If we are going down the buzzer route. Could it be the step out warning buzzer?

There are two wires going into it. There must be a clue there (but it hasn't helped me yet).

I think 'full of rusty water' may be a clue. :D
