As an alternative to the usual MIFI units I came across this on Ebay just now, it's similar to the one that we have at home for our Three 'home' contract. It works on 12v and takes twin antennas so could prove ideal for a MH as you don't need to worry about batteries and could be permanently mounted and powered (with an in-line switch/fuse for safety) in the van. Obviously it can be used at home as we do but taken away when you go on holiday (that's what we intend to do!).

The one in the below link is an auction one but there are some BIN ones too.

Seller in UK but dispatches from Poland?
It clearly states that the item is in Poland, there are a lot located in Poland so I assume that's where they are being sent out from?

Don't forget that there are a lot of people from Poland who work in the UK.

I can't see an aerial socket - is that a drawback?

He has 97.8 feedback. I would be cautious. I like to see 99% and prefer 99.6 or higher which indicates good customer service. Although when you are talking about dirt cheap items that the seller has sold 10,000's of I tend to allow a bit lower. 97.8 for someone who has only sold 500 ish items is not good :(

The Huawei 953 is the big brother of this. The 915 appears to be a cut down model and doesn't have such a good internal antenna. So if you want to use it without an external antenna then the 953 is better. The 915 however covers the 800Mhz frequency band which I think is only used by O2. So if you use O2 then the 915 may give you better coverage?

The latest model is the B5186 which I will be looking at in the new year to connect up with my new MikroTik Hap router which is amazing. The advantage of the B5186 is that it supports Category 6 which is much faster. This allows carrier aggregation where the carrier can aggregate chanels in 2 frequency bands to give much faster speeds (up to 300Mbps) I believe.

As I am looking to get a system in place that will last me 2-3 years minimum I am going for the latest tech to ensure I am as future proofed as possible.

Interesting alternative, especially for those who want to use a printer and say a separate hard drive for backing up. USB socket as well.

I suspect those aerial might just be for the WiFi. The broadband/internet antenna seem to be inside it. But I could be wrong!
Its a MIFI receiver, ie it has a sim in it, not just a WIFI receiver, it gets the internet from the sim provider (ie their network) then turns that into WIFI which your laptop, tablet etc can connect to, so the antennas are to improve the signal the unit receives from the sim provider - when the external aerials are connected you have to alter the internal settings to use that instead apparently.

I understand what it is but the little antenna looked like the ones you get on some routers which create the local WiFi signal. But after checking they are indeed the 4g antenna and you could extend them with cables to have a pair of suitable antenna on the roof.

Hi can anybody decipher what this is telling me, and does it apply to all these huawei routers?

Link Removed

Like new support fdd-lte 800/1800/2600 and tdd-lte 2300/2600 band 3,7,20,38,40(do not support umts 3g network ). with Huawei Type-D antenna and UK 3 PIN power adapter ( UK to EU adapter ).Unlocked for any UK LTE carrier.
This router Preferred TDD LTE band , so it may need at least 10 min to register FDD network at fist time use .
router color are black or white , send random .
make sure your place have 4G lte signal , because this CPE can not fallback support 3G networks .

Many Thanks Tony

Which shows how misleading the 100% rating can be .... you've had some neutrals and negatives (not many mind!). :xgrin: :xwink:
Ah but have you read them, neg was from a buyer who could not cut a dirt skirt to length,
one neutral was 'arrived' on time!
another was delivered late but due to courier,
another neutral was our display one which we told him about and it was the last one in stock
other neutral was lost in post and had a refund !!!

Try this one, it does 3G/4G. Please don't buy them all everyone I am buying one in the new year I think. It will keep me going till I have the funds for the B5186 new.

@Brakers The one I and Jaws have linked to both do 3G and 4G, but the one you've linked to for some reason doesn't although it is a slightly different model number and the frequency bands are slightly different so that might be part of the reason it's 4G only according to the blurb the seller's given.

oh, I didn't realise ebay did individual product reviews lol. I didn't scroll down far enough...

I will look into it and check. My guess is the reviewer is a moron as LTE is a standard.

Hi Gromett you are probably correct, but who knows, without knowing the guy who posted it you or I will never know.
But saying that without looking the ebayer did have top marks which in my mind does go a long way to persuade me he is genuine.
Best Wishes Tony

He says he can't login to the admin panel. He probably isn't plugging the network cable in, or attempting to connect on the wrong IP.
Having been in business of providing IT support I never rule out how bad some peoples abilities are on this front. They tend to rush the conclusion of faulty gear, post bad reviews, shout at the company who sold it to them and never once consider the fact that they may be doing something wrong.

If his review had said, "I couldn't connect, checked with the sell but got no support or resolution, don't buy if you are from the uk." Or something like that I may have given it more weight. Looks like he has just thrown a review at them without requesting support?

The second review mentions it not working on Voda in ireland. THis might be because Voda has the 800Mhz band and the 593 doesn't support that. The 315 does though.

I decided to check into this a bit more. Here are the model details;
  • HUAWEI B593s-601: Band 3/7/40 (FDD 1800/2600MHz & TDD 2300MHz)
  • HUAWEI B593u-12: Band 1/3/7/8/20 (FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz)
  • HUAWEI B593s-22: Band 1/3/7/8/20/38 (TDD 2600 FDD 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz) (Speed to 150Mbps)
  • HUAWEI B593s-82: Band 38/40 (TDD 2300/2600MHz)
  • HUAWEI B593s-850: Band 38/39/40 (TDD 1900/2300/2600MHz)
  • HUAWEI B593u-91: Band 38/40 (TDD 2300/2600MHz)

The UK uses 800, 1800 and 2600 Mhz
So I think that is band 1,7 and 20.

Looks like all 4 providers in the UK use 800Mhz though, I thought it was only O2.

800 1800 2600
EE y y y
Three y y n
O2 y n n
Voda y n y

Can't get the table to format sorry.

Seen similar units in CO-OP stores, the are positione on the perimeter walls. They use these for automatic stock taking with hand held scanners. I would imagine if they are anything like the afore mentioned they will be quite good.
