When there are aerial points at some campsites do they require the cable to have a male or female connection?

yes kitbag same both ends. If you look in asda and the like you can get a house telephone ext kit for a fiver or so witha 20m cable with the plugs fitted and its low profile cable too so smaller to store. the kit also has a converter plug to change one end to a female. this means that if you buy 2 kits you ca use one as an extension and so double the length.

Better then paying out for tv coax and plugs

You can't use telephone cable as TV coax? did you mean "house TV ext kit" perhaps?
