We bought a book on foraging too. No pictures in it whatsoever! Pretty useless when you want to know if something will harm you

Can I eat this?

No. I can't see an exact match but google Panther Cap. If it's that it could kill you.

I thought it was a Panther Cap too, apparently they are hallucinogenic and /or kill you. I think I'll leave it where it is...
Anyway, here's the woods to the side of our driveway where we saw it.

No!

You need to look at at least 2 ILLUSTRATED books on fungi and then if you have Internet access check some images on line before deciding if something is safe.

As a rule of thumb, if it is growing in the open it might be OK. If it is under trees or in a hedge be careful. The really nasty ones like death cap and destroying angel don't grow in the open.

There is also a distinction between "edible" and "nice to eat". Only a handful of fungii are deadly but many that are safe to eat are hardly gourmet quality. A good example is the meadow waxcap, a fungii of old pastures. It is edible but they don't stock it in Waitrose for a reason.

If he brings his guitar next time Bill I'm sure we can find something he can play along with.

They look really good what paint did you use.
I had the paint mixed by local paint and decorating shop to a colour I liked
It's eggshell paint only cost £24 for 2 and a half litres. I'm really pleased with the result they have come up like new.

Can you be a bit more specific please... I can't afford new doors and was thinking of painting mine over winter. Were yours very dark or already light? Mine are a horrible dark wood.... How many coats of primer, undercoat, top coat did you use please and do you think they hardwearing enough for in the kitchen bearing in mind spills down the front when daughter's friends house sit for me when away on meets... Sorry for the inquisition... just hate my house so much it is so dark. :(
