You don't own the ebooks you buy and you could lose them all.

This is exactly the reason why I remove the DRM from the ebooks I buy so that the supplier CANNOT remove them from my computer/ebook at a later date.

It is unlikely that this would happen to Amazon but I honestly don't trust ANY cloud service or online provider.

After Amazon removed the book 1984 from everyones ereader. Then Apple removed a bunch of films that people had BOUGHT and paid for. Rather than refunding the purchase price they gave 2 free rentals.
Remember if it is has DRM on it, then you don't own it.

Just searched for an article covering both of these issues and found this one. Worth a read if you use a cloud service.

Just as an aside on ebooks, I was looking for a Wallander book, found it, £3.99 on Kindle but a hard back copy arrived today for £2.99. It's not the first time I've found second hand paper cheaper the a stream of bytes.

On the same lines, I gave 'er indoors a Kindle a few years ago and set it up for my Amazon account. BIG mistake. I now search through 1,000,000 trashy novels looking for my few books.

Anyone know how I can rid myself of 1,000,000 trashy novels or move my Kindle books somewhere else ?

OK, for those of a feminine disposition, change trashy to girly.

Very informative and thanks for the reminder.

Not an issue for me as I remove the book when read anyway and rarely read the same one twice because I have a lot of problems with really big words and end up chewing all the crayons. If I want a book a lot, I normally buy the hardback version

You can put books into collection on kindles, so why not have separate collections? I use mine for read, unfinished etc...

She now prefers a plain Android tablet for reading. I've always used Android.

You can remove books on kindle by selecting Remove from device & download again any time you want them.

Calibre is a good free e-book mangement program. You can download books to it and transfer them to your kindle or upload books from your kindle to it. Allows you to change the e format. If you have a Kindle or another ereader well worth having Calibre on your PC.

The biggest problem in the past was getting a bok only to realise half way through that I'd read it before!!

@Gromett how do you remove the DRM. I keep my ebooks in Calibre and take a selection with me, but couldn't see an option to remove DRM.

Thanks

@MarkMcG Thanks, I'll give that a go later, currently using Win10 and/or MX Linux, so these should be fine.
