Not sure if the purists would call it wild camping if it is not free, but anyway...

Went to the Dales at the weekend and stayed a couple of nights at a site. On he way bak we toured round and stopped at Semer Water to have dinner. Beautiful spot hemmed in by hills and with a fairly large lake you can swim in or canoe etc.

Anyway, the farmer came down to collect parking charges (£1.50 for 5 hours) and asked if we were staying overnight. we weren't, but he said it would be about £5.00 for our van. Thy have a sliding scale (a bit randomly applied it seems), based upon the VW camper at £4.50 per night and going up with length.

Anyway, it is a beautiful spot if anyone is interested. No facilities other than nature, obviously.

Location is here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Semer+Water&aq=0&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=17.235515,53.569336&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Semer+Water&ll=54.283479,-2.120962&spn=0.002073,0.006539&t=h&z=18

excellent, thank you very much for that. Just the sort of place we like to go, Wild camp but with the knowledge that no one is going to come and move you on.
