Hi

We're planning a trip to Sicily in January and February 2025 and would like to spend a month in one location.
Can anyone recommend a stopover with facilities and located within an easy (level) walk or short bus ride to a village/town that has rail/bus links?
Thanks :)

Well the only campsite that I went to in Sicily was Scarebao camping very nice site right on the beach 🏝️ and nice staff, and went there for 4 years on the trot.
Small shop nearby but about 3 miles from nearest town for major shopping but no buses 🚌 but used to use mh to go shopping as all supermarkets Had big car parks so parking not a problem with mh. Located at punta Braccetto
I used to go for 6 months at a time oct to march site had own hire car you can rent to go shopping or visiting

Roughly how much is the ferry during the winter?

Camping La Playa at Isola delle Femmine is a short train ride to Palermo, and is very quiet amongst the olive trees.

If you wany to be on the other side of the island, we stayed at Camping Jonio, right beside the sea in Catania.

Plenty of buses and trains to get you to Syracuse (where Archimedes lived), Mount Etna, and Taormina (wonderful hilltop town with Roman amphitheatre)

If you love history, don't forget to go to the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento!

Good luck!

Last time I went was about 2016 and ferry for my 8m mh was about £340 one way but that was with the presidential suite cabin, but without cabin I thing was about £240 one way and takes about 20 hrs leaves Genoa at 22.00 and arrives Palermo about 19.00 next day

What bridge would that be then? Nothing on any map I've seen.
Looks like a short ferry crossing though.
Interested because getting fed up of the crowding in Iberia.

I thought they had built the Bridge ?? mabe thats Greece then ,, but there is s a short regular ferry

The ferry to Messina Sicily from Villa San Geovanni wes €88 return in June/ July. Book on line and drive straight on, at worst it’s a short wait. Approximately a twenty minute crossing.
As regards campsites I wouldn’t commit to just one, of those that we stayed on, none had all the local facilities, or level of interest you need for a lengthy stay for us.
We spent a week at the above, a short walk into San vito lol Capo which is a small beach town with street markets on certain days. There were a couple of British long stayers on site, so I guess it works as a winter destination.
They have a good quality restaurant that locals come in to use, and they have some enticing monthly deals.

Are winters in Sicily not wet and windy like Greece ?

No Bridge linking mainland to Sicilia due to the potential earthquake risk......allegedly....

Cheers🍻
