How feasible is it to just wing it through southern Iberia this winter? We would like to mainly stay at quiet out of the way locations rather than formal campsites. Is this possible or are we likely to be fined/moved on by police?

How long is a bit of string

Very easily, it’s the ones that congregate together by the coast that make a nuisance of themselves and get moved on...

It's what we do everywhere. Have plenty of info about aires, campsites etc. - Campercontact is an excellent source - and tend to stay away from the most popular places. Aires are our preferred stop for just a night or two but for longer we'll usually find a nice small site, ACSI are good for that as you get a full description in the book - we always save the cost of the membership. Staying in one place for more than a week is not our scene.

On occasion we've been turned away but have always found somewhere.

Book? We only ever book if we want to be at a particular place at a particular time, which is exceedingly rare.

Thank you for your replies. Looks like we should be okay then.

If you happen to be over our way, you are more than welcome to spend a few days with us, it would be nice to catch up with Mags again. Our way is near Oliveira do Hospital, Central Portugal.

Safe travels.

Thanks Nigel and Pamala - we would like that. I’m sure Nix will still remember her Uncle Nigel. :)

We also hope to annoy JJ at some point in our travels. ;)
