Had a very similar experience less than 2 miles from setting off from home last Friday for France.
Luckily for us, apart from a very faint white mark on the mirror protector no damage. After Stopping at first spot safe do so, the other driver said I’d broken £160 mirror on his van (VW Transporter) wife told him he was lucky it hadn’t broken our mirror as that would be more likely £360. The annoying this is I’d slowed right down and was as far a was practical in the edge. As can be seen from the light scratches on the near side.
We did swop names and contact numbers, if he wishes to pursue let the insurance company deal with it.

I think that this is a popular company and it says that they can despatch by DPD so you could arrange for collection at a depot.

Blimey my last 2 strikes on driver’s mirror were from Land Rovers. Both times way over the white line, both in a rush, with the second returning and claiming I drove into her. Have you got a dash cam says I and with that I reported to the police as she became hysterical, crying and claiming her husband would be furious and that she was late to pick up her child from infant school and banging on my bonnet and all on camera!!

Police asked if I wanted to press charges, but I only had the lower mirror pop out again, so no thanks.

My slimline Carthago has the mirrors set at the top of the screen and I thought they'll miss 'white van man' yet in two years I've had a couple of hits. Once a French fire engine and the other day a double decker bus. Over a similar period of owning a coach built with conventional cab mirrors, I didn't get clipped once.
