Wifi won't work without the lights on! (1 Viewer)

My wifi backbox/charger has no power unless one set of my interior lights are switched on.

Clearly whoever installed it from new (and I'm awaiting confirmation if it was "a massive dealer in the NE") just looked for the nearest power cable to tee into.

That seems mad to me, so I'm assuming that is a shoddy job and not normal?

Yes shoddy job. Obviously had the light on when he searched for 12 volts and didn't check the source properly.

Reminds me of a neighbour who gave another neighbour advice (not me before you ask) about getting power to his newly installed wall lights. Advice was that in a 1930’s semi the central heating pump would be above the lounge. All done, heating on, wall lights on he heads to the pub, come 21:30 his missus isn’t amused at being plunged into darkness when the heating turns off on the timer !

I only discovered it because as I attached my tone tracer to the seemingly dead 12v power connector that disappeared into a wall, the lights came on. I was essentially shorting it and acting as a power switch.

I'm not sure I accept that as out of warranty. Wonder where I stand on that? I'm not the original owner, mind, but still, this was a factory fitted device that hasn't "gone wrong", it was never right in the first place.

If nothing else, I'm learning a lot...

Just rewire it to the other side of the light switch or another power source. Not worth the hassle of contacting the dealer.

I contacted Wandahome but, understandably, they can't really comment without seeing it and I'm not planning a trip to Hull just yet.

Guess it's time to break out the 81's and the swear box. Gonna be an expensive weekend
