Last piece of our TOAD puzzle sorted yesterday when we collected the seesaw trailer (not sure if that’s the correct term?). Did some practice loadings on/off this morning and some hill tests on the newly (SW) modified Fiat 9spd autobox, so far so good. Next to sort is the tie-down kit for each wheel. The Temared trailer (Multitransporter 3016) is rated to 1300kgs so is braked and seems very well designed and made. Decent automatic jockey wheel, simple seesaw (tipping) mechanism and rated up to 100kmh.

The rig has now become 13m long 😳 but Mrs Ridgeway is very happy that her Frog can come along on journeys with us😂

Looking at the pics , just a reminder re weight distribution , particularly as it looks (in the pics) a bit tail down . Both of which can lead to tendency to snake . Nice looking rig btw .

Good point. Any ideas if there’s a nose weight calculator or guidance ? On the pics it’s on a slight hill so maybe it’s that but would like to make sure👍🏻

Something like this does the trick with enough accuracy for most.

From tugging days, and a shaky memory, the noseweight of a trailer should be 7% of the weight of the trailer PLUS load but that noseweight should not exceed the max. that the towbar can take.

PS. That calculation should be performed on level ground, and further, the ideal measuring tool is a domestic scales sat on a piece of plywood with a suitable stick with a length identical to the height of the towbar which should not be higher than the trailer when itself is level.

From the title I thought the toad had jumped of the ball hitch!! :ROFLMAO:
Mike.

Nose weight should be on the data plate by the tow ball.
Mine says 100kg.

Ok will take a look but i guess that’s max permissible rather than recommended as Tacr2man was suggesting ?

I’ve actually got a set of 4 of that exact kit, but…. Now wondering if a regular tie down kit will be easier as to load the “car” i would need to drive over the chocks whilst the trailer is still pointing skywards… plop over the 4 chocks at which point the seesaw effect kicks in and the trailer lowers. Possible but just might make things a little more complicated, not sure. Was now thinking that with a regular tie down kit that i can be less precise about loading position and not have to drive over the chocks although i do see that Erickson also sell the E track that i could use at the rear instead of that rear chock.

Needs some more practice and fettling me thinks 🤔

On the road and all strapped down with standard tie down kit which worked a treat.

First time since having a tin tent that we’ve had a car with us so we might just go a bit crazy and buy way too much shopping 😂 Mrs Ridgeway being all frivolous suggested we could buy 2 x 6 packs of water🤔

Need a bigger van to store so much water.

I like the concept of the Microlino, rather like a ‘60s Issetta or similar in appearance, but substitution of a smelly 2-stroke with a modern alternative power source. Looks really good, we just need more like them in our cities rather than 3 tonne behemoths.

OMG!! That looks so cool. I had to google Microlino! Its cute as a button! I bet its a right giggle. How do you charge it? Does it charge from the van on the move or need hooking up? One things for sure you will be easy to spot if we come across you touring this summer! Love it! :D

Reminds me of the old Messerschmitt type three wheeler cars of yesteryear.

Was only looking at a bubble car the other day having had one years ago....That what you have is just brilliant! One on Piston Heads in Orange looks superb. Make the old Bubble car look small !
