What plans does everyone have for uk trips next year?
We’re planning a long awaited trip to the Outer Hebrides. Uist, Harris & Lewis via Syke. Possibly May/June
Really looking forward it.

Also probably Herefordshire later in the year.

Where’s everyone else off to?

Taking the opportunity of my son being posted to Scotland to visit the family up there and undertake more travels in fab landscapes, particularly NE Scotland and maybe a ferry trip to the islands?

For 20 years I've only toured abroad and never planned because a). I loathe the planning process fiddling about with maps, guides and Apps, and b). I like surprises. I just drive 17 miles to the Newhaven - Dieppe ferry and then follow my nose.

So much variation in the UK!
I’m always drawn to Scotland, but living on the south coast of England it’s quite a trek!

Oh I love the planning! Don’t always stick to it though..

Going to try the Isle of wight for the first time. Meeting up with friends.Taking bikes as looks good for cycling. Usual Cornwall break. And rest will be wherever the weather looks best.

I wonder which areas are more obviously Motorhome friendly than others?

We went over to IOW last year. It was great.
Some nice sites and great bus service and walking.

I used to plan U.K. holidays (and hated having to book sites :() when my two sons came with me just to be sure they had pools, a shop and kid-walking areas etc. but they're in their late 40's now and go abroad, one with a caravan and the other with a m/h.

We’ve visited several times in recent years - 700+ miles from Cornwall. But don’t let that put you off, we generally do a stopover around Bristol area, then midlands, then N Yorks, then Scottish borders, Pitlochry then destination (Inverness area in our case). So 5 stopovers but it really doesn’t feel like the trek it is. Do the same again on return but vary the journey e.g, via Loch Ness, Glencoe, Borders, Lancashire, Cheshire, Hereford
shire etc & home.

Did you only do part of it before? Or doing it again because there’s so much to see
Done all of it twice but we just like it so much we’re going to do it again. In winter it’s relatively quiet so very few traffic hold ups.

No it doesn’t put us off.
We’re Sussex coast so about 10hrs for us. We did Glencoe area in one hit last summer. And then north of Ullapool in October with one stopover in Cumbria.
We just take it in turns with the driving.

Can't get across the channel until April due to family commitments, but we will have a least two trips over the water if not three. One of them may take in Germany to swap our Alugas bottles as they will be out of date next year. We don't do planning spoils the fun.
May do one or two Fun rallies & a music festival but don't really like using the van in the UK, too much hassle.

What puts you off about uk van trips?
We’ve not taken the van abroad yet, only had it a year and we’re loving touring the uk so far.

Too much hassle finding a place to stop for the night, very difficult to park in towns & villages.
Once you have been abroad and seen how easy it is to use a van over there you won't want to use a van in the UK.

We have thought about Dumfries and Galloway also our son wants me to take him to Skye. September will be a no go because of managements family coming from Australia for daughters wedding. Maybe plans will change as the year progresse.
As for Norfolk and Suffolk we had ten days starting and finishing at Deepdale this year. We mostly stayed off grid using a mix of pub stops and a village hall.

Pah, you're in a motorhome, have a stop on the way up man. Make it part of the holiday, we're bedfordshire and that's what we do.

As for where in the UK (I'll not include abroad as it wasn't asked)

Definitely another Scottish run, it's too nice not to! Possibly Isle of Harris / Lewis as I miss it despite greedy Calmac.
Isle of Wight probably a long weekend
Northumberland for sure.
Still have to do anywhere in Wales! So gotta do that! NO idea where though.

So we are off to Spain for some sun in February - boring I know - but needed for the bones. This time we are going from Wales via Ireland. Fishguard to Rosslare on the windy and often bumpy Stenaline ferries 2.5 hour run and then down to Bilbao from Rosslare on BF. Different from our usual Portsmouth/Plymouth to Bilbao/Santander route. Costing it out I reckon it costs about the same as our usual route even without my Club Voyage card (invalid on this route) and allowing for overnight stays etc.etc. Booking on BF Ireland was a breeze using a well known VPN. Even got pet friendly cabins on Pont Aven at short notice - perhaps I was just lucky. Worrying a bit and would welcome views on anyone who has done this ahead of us. Also happy to report back on our experiences when this is done.

Several things put me off U.K. trips, but my overall experience is that motorhomes are positively welcomed everywhere abroad but they are merely tolerated in the U.K.

Ireland is beautiful. We’ve been twice pre MH.
Didn’t find it particularly dog friendly compared to the uk so if we went again we’d go in warmer months so sitting outside pubs etc is more doable. Also been to Donegal via NI very different landscape. You’ll love it, I’m sure.

Yes we’ll definitely take it a slower this time and have a couple of stops on the way. And yes I was bit shocked at the price of the Calmac crossings! Has that made it less popular d’you think?

Totally agree (y). Unfortunately on this trip it is just a quick pass through for a couple of hours to get to Spain by the most efficient route for us. We will stay longer when the weather is better later in the year

I think there are probably more than a few of us who aren’t interested in yet another thread about UK travelling being hijacked by those who only Motorhome abroad.

Can we keep it UK please for us that can’t do the foreign thing and would like some ideas of travelling over here?

Oh dear! Just noticed the title says "What UK Trips" I don't associate Motorhoming with the UK.:xsmile:
They don't like Motorhomes here.:xblink:
