Hi all and thanks in advance . Simply put what does the gov mean by all “eligible” vehicles? Will or 57 plate fiat Ducato based autotrail tracker be eligible? Best regards Paul.

My 58 plate Ducato was due mot a couple of weeks ago. Now showing mot’d until October.

My 17 plate Autograph (4250KG) was due first MOT beginning of May, now showing end of October

They appear to be doing you out of one day!:giggle:
We took our car in as booked for a service and mot a week before it was due end of April. Because DVLA extended MOT to October we lost that week.

It's done automatically. Strangely, though, when I checked, one of the cars, which was due MoT now, had been extended to April 2021!

Quite right. Let's have a crowdfunding campaign to get the day back......
and he can borrow shifftys new shoes to deliver it in person to Swansea! :giggle:

How well do you know Shifty? You can't borrow his new shoes but he will rent them out for a suitable fee.....

It's amazing how missing quote marks can change the meaning of a sentence!

There is going to be one hell of a backlog when a quarter of ALL eligble vehicle become due ALL ON the SAME DATE. I might try and get mine done before , if allowed out that is.

the new due date will be a rolling date based on original due date so whilst there will be more than normal it will not be all of them due at the same time

I did read somewhere that if a motor vehicle that has an extended mot is involved in an accident the insurance will want to see the service record for the vehicle before considering any payout.

Vehicles made before 1979 are MOT exempt so will be in the 'not eligible' category.
I don't feel that 'eligible' is a suitable word in that context as it makes it sound as though being 'eligible' for an MOT is a desirable bonus.

Well this nugget of information has made our day. Checked our vans Mot and it’s been extended to the end of September...happy days

Could it be that, in 'That' 6 mths, there are two 31day months in succession.

Read somewhere that although there is a six months extension, the DOT are saying that this in blocks of two weeks and as such you should regularly check fo changes to the date stated

Yes my "toad", Due July, is still showing July. As it also looks like needing a clutch, I will likely get the MOT "done" and then let them do the clutch ONLY IF if passes. Not worth it otherwise. Trying to arrange it whilst the lockdown continues if at all possible.

It was announced in the budget several years ago the new vehicles would have a four year MOT test requirement but that never actually happened.

That was subject to a public consultation as the EU Directive allows for 4 years from the date of registration and every two years following that. The UK of course, gold-plated that Directive and went for the strictest regime allowed i.e. first test three years after first registration and every year thereafter. Apparantly the public consultation did not favour any relaxation of the current regime.

I feel quite miffed about our MOT, it expired in late March & the reason I didn't take it for an MOT was that social distancing was the recommendation back then, so being socially responsible I decided (in my wisdom) to wait until things were relaxed.
Now I'm stuck with no MOT station open & will have to drive to the centre (when the time comes) with no MOT!
So for doing as advised I fell like I'm being penalised, she's sitting there suited & booted, everything ready to rock n roll then bang. Miffed isn't the word.

Yes for getting the extension but once you've got it thats the new due date. It makes sense as it is when it gets to the end of the 6 months there will be close to double the number trying to get one booked if they made the extensions all end at once it would be chaos

As long as you book it in for the MOT and the testing centre is a reasonable distance from where your vehicle is then you won't have a problem, that's my understanding of how the system has always worked.

I'm nearly certain that I read somewhere that this is no longer the case.
However, I'm praying that your correct & that certainly was the case before.

Announced today;

Drivers whose MOTs are due during the pandemic shutdown will enjoy a one-year exemption, a minister in Northern Ireland has said.

It would not be possible to accommodate the backlog as well as conduct normal business at testing centres, infrastructure minister Nichola Mallon said.

Drivers will instead apply for MOTs as normal next year.
