Sorry, I should have posted this a few weeks ago but forgot.
The weighbridge that was situated at Bartholomews Seedmerchants, Chichester is no longer there. The entire site has been demolished for housing.

Our nearest one near Guildford, also closed about 2 years ago.
There is now not one local to us, so now we will have to plan to use one en-route somewhere on our travels.
I did use one in Wellington Somerset,(128 miles from home) as it was very close to our dealers, but paying £10 per axle, plus another £10 overall is rather off putting, I hope others agree, or am I being tight as usual.
I know there are better value ones across the country, but as this was a VOSA/Local authority one, then I would have thought they could price it better, to encourage all that wish to stay safe and within the law to use it more often.

There might no longer be an official weighbridge, however there's bound to be a company that will use a weighbridge for their every day operation. I'd try a scrap dealer, bulk materials, quarry, etc. There's loads close to where I live, when you look, just slip the operator a drink and I'm sure they'd let you do a weight check.

Just thought, when we lived in Old Basing we used to take the RV over to the Corrs brewery in Alton which is not far from Camberley :giggle:

For info for anyone living or travelling down here, we used the quarry weighbridge on Billacombe Road, Plymstock, free to use, unless you want a ticket, then they just ask for a donation.

No, I don't think so.I was amazed to be actually asked to pay when over about 6 years ago. Here certified weighbridges can be found all over at 1€ per weigh with printed ticket giving all info + sate bridge was certified. Or if I'm being tight foc at any builders merchant.

There's a weighbridge at SIMS Metal in Yateley.

I was going to say local scrap yard, ring them first to make sure. They would probly only charge you if you wanted a receipt (y) (y) (y) (y)

The council weighbridge at Chelston nr Wellington, Somerset is run by typical civil servants. There is no way that they will even flick a switch to turn on the outside illuminated weight sign even after you have paid the £10 ransom. I’v asked them to just turn it on as I drive off the weight plate. Just let me pull away slowly so I can get an idea of what’s going on at the back. They just shrug and slam the door.
They are a “ left wing “ load of bigots, and I’v told them so.

My last two motor homes I have not bothered to weigh so if I happen to get caught overweight I will have saved the weighing costs towards the fine.

Now we are ‘ vanning ‘ Auto Trail V Line 635 we have a pay load of some 500 kg’s, no garage to worry about, no cycle rack, so we would really have to go mad to overload, and the other thing that is useful is we are under the 3050 kg’s regarding speed limits, win, win.

I've just rung them. They do have a weighbridge at their new premises. They quoted a charge but I think that's only if you want a ticket.

Hi, I don’t know if this would help, but when we were looking for a public weighbridge this gov.uk website pointed us on the right direction.

For info, Coors Brewery at Alton closed down five years ago and the site is due for redevelopment.

I wish it was only a £10 ransom, as I said earlier its £10 per axel =£20 + overall weight £10, so its £30 to get a ticket, and no free option was offered.
But the place seemed empty in the reception office, we were served by a young lady, who brought the certificate out to us.
Wont be paying that again in a hurry.:swear2:

I called them a few weeks ago. They no longer do public weighing.
Hmmm that's annoying, we were planning on taking the new MH there later this week.

Looks like we might need to go over to Tadley then: <Broken link removed>

Well I've found a weighbridge not far from where we're picking up our new MH - if anyone in the Bletchley area is interested: https://www.agoodmanandson.co.uk/public-weighbridge/ (y) £10 cash if you want a certificate. So at least we can see what the new MH actually weighs and how much payload we actually have.

Still on the hunt to find one nearer to home though :(

Sadly not, it just redirects you to local authority websites - most of which seem to be well out of date.....the first two (in two different counties) I tried this morning were both no longer offering public weighbridges (and told me they hadn't done for a while). Its not surprising really that so many people don't worry too much about being overweight.....even if you want to do the right thing its not easy to actually find somewhere to get weighed. Maybe we could try to build a list of known weighbridges on here?

If anyone in the Hampshire/Surrey/Oxford areas needs a weighbridge then its worth contacting R Collard skips - they have a number of locations in the area where they can weigh you.

TinaL, Hi , things have changed there regarding prices. I must have been lucky, they charged my £10 to weigh the van , both axles. That was 5 or 6 years ago.
Years ago they used to leave the external illuminated weight sign on at weekends so it was just a case of driving in and stop on the weighbridge. I think it was so that lorries could check themselves.
Oh how safety has improved !

Drive down the A27 as there is a VOSA one near Shoreham Airport. It is on the West bound side of the dual carriageway just after the Airfield and the Gypsy camp. In a large layby and is free. It weighs each axle as you drive over it and each axle weight and the total flashes up on the screen on the brick built hut next to it.

Reading the posts above, I realise we’re very lucky to have at least four weighbridges (public and private) within 30 mins drive, plus another 6-8 within an hour’s drive.

We are in the south of Northumberland, so we have County Durham and Tyne & Wear Councils close by and all three Councils have a good network of current and in use weighbridges.

However the Gold Medal ? for the best weighbridge near us is one in a village called Belsay near Newcastle Airport. It’s on a private farm but it’s signed as a public weighbridge and it’s accessed directly from the road. We made contact to book a slot and we could have gone up to 18:30, whereas most seem to close at around 16:00. We were issued with the signed weighbridge ticket and he charges just £5.00.

Hi, I don’t know if this would help, but when we were looking for a public weighbridge this gov.uk website pointed us on the right direction.

Doesn’t work for West Berkshire ?
The gov site refers me to the West Berks council site & the trail goes cold there ☹️
There’s just two of us in a 4 berth but one day I’ll get the MH weighed ?

Any heads up on a West Berks weigh bridge?
There’s a HGV test centre in Newbury. But I’d like a 2nd friendlier choice ?

Just an update to my original post for those who might be interested.
I took a drive to the Chichester Food Park to find the new weighbridge. It's easy to find, just drive into Bartholomews entrance and it is straight ahead of you. I was in the car and just drove straight on. There is a digital readout at one end.

When I called in there the operator helpfully suggested she weigh the front and rear axles only, leaving me to do a simple sum and save £10.

No longer available at Sims in Yateley, I tried about 3 months ago, Collards in Eversley is the nearest but do not give a ticket. The nearest I could find for a ticket was Basingstoke.
