Come to Germany! It's great for motorhoming/van life.
Two days ago we filled our 100-liter fresh-water tank then noticed yesterday that the reading is still "full", even though the tank is in fact just under half-full. This morning we put in more water (not full); still the reading is "full". This is of course inconvenient and needs to be put right. Could the fault be something simple?

Do you have an access hole to your tank? If yes you may be able to move the float if stuck, or give the contacts a wipe over, which may have scale on.

If you have a system that says 0% \ 25% \ 50% \ 75% \ 100% it may have multi-sensors that get "furred \ clogged" up and give false readings. They basically measure the level by electro-conductivity through the water.
It's a frequent issue and most folk, like us, just ignore it. You can clean them but give it a month or two and the problem will be back.
You can get replacement sensors that seem to work better and I think Diabalo may have fitted them.

Yes, through the big filler-cap, which unscrews, on the top of the tank.

Earlier today I had a look, as far as this is possible, and put my hand and arm in there but there didn't appear to be a float. (But maybe I didn't look properly.)

We don't have this system. It measures (or claims to measure) in exact liters.

Never had a prob with the fresh tank readings just the grey, tried all the usual but the problem returned after a few weeks. In the end I fitted Horst miracle probes and never had a problem since and that was 3 years ago. I got mine direct from the states at about half the price of the UK seller below

Shove your hand and probably arm through the hole and feel the sides of the tank. You will then probably find metal studs that are the contacts, and give them a good wipe over with your hand.
