HI all

I thought i would ask, in case anyone is considering an upgrade, or a change. My daughter has been bitten by the bug, and wants to join the van life community. She hasn't got a massive budget, but needs something reliable, and suitable for long terming in. She is limited to 3.5 ton. She wants a double bed, and as already mentioned a toilet and shower, and gas or diesel heating. She likes the Murvi's and the ones with a fixed bed at the back, but as it is going to be her daily drive as well, must be manoeverable and easy to park.

this is a possible, any opinions guys?

I've just looked at the MOT history for you (T404 VHO) and summarised it below, what jumps out at me in the original advert is the bit about "As its an older model a fair amount of underbody work and rust protection has been done so should have a good few years left in it." This makes me wonder how much work it has actually had done to 'cure' the problem rather than just make it usable/able to pass MOT ... be very careful as my alarm bells are ringing.

We've got a Murvi and love it but at 6m it is just too long to fit on a standard car parking slot so this might be an issue for daily use depending on where your daughter can park it at work. Also she might only get 25 mpg so would need to factor that in.

The one you link to is 20 years old so I wouldn't expect it to sail through every MOT and if your daughter has a budget of £15K and that one is only £10K and she might get it for less then she has money in hand for future repairs.

Is self-building an option?

Might be able to get a newer vehicle - plus have the interior more suited to full-time (for her)

Lots listed as ‘race vans’ on eBay, opens up your search and some are quite nice.

Reading through the MOTs on that Murvi, it sounds like a rusty old money pit. Regularly neglected between MOTs for advisories on safety critical brakes and suspension. The rust is so bad that suspension mounts and sills are rotten
avoid like the plague

Thanks everyone. Great detective work Minxy. I didn't think the number plate was visible. I think it's a no. As the Big1 says tooo much rust and corrosion for us. Back to the drawing board.
I will check out race vans. I did wonder about a conversion. Does anyone have recommendations?

At least the internals such as wiring and insulation are new and up to date

Why not consider starting with a micro van and having it converted or buy one already converted? I have a Nissan NV 200 converted by Chapel Motorhomes (I gave them the van and they converted it to my spec.) I love it and it is my daily driver.

Don’t know if he will go as low as 15 but Eddy has done an excellent conversion on this van and it has a double back bed. Contact him on Facebook

Thank goodness for that ... I can stop my bells from ringing now ... I'm going deaf with the racket! :D
