Our 2012 t5 caravelle has rock hard rear suspension.

It has apparently 20mm lowered sports suspension and 235 55 17 tyres.

Does anyone know the best way of improving the overly hard rear ride.
I'm thinking of putting 16" steel wheels and 215 75 16 tyres (similar diameter)

I don't think the springs are gone as it's only done 80k and was a wheel chair adapted vehicle before we got it!

New springs all round would be possible but expensive labour wise.

Thanks in advance.

James

The tyre size for start 55 that’s low for rear mate

Is it that’s low

Going for a higher profile will help the ride, other wise you will have to take the sports suspension will have to come off, I’m sure you know that you will have to do front and rear.

We put small wheels on with more rubber on which helped so much on T32

Yeap I thought as much unless I wanted an A team van!!

T32 and a T28

Difference between the T26, T28, T30 and T32 the only difference is the carrying capacity

Thankyou, ain't life confusing for an old man? In the 'good old days' there was just Splitter, T2, T2.5 or 3, T4 etc.

And t5, t5.1(2010-16) t6 (post 2016???)

It's worth checking the rear springs carefully as they are prone to breaking. Rears are not difficult to change if you can get both sides lifted at the same time and possibly disconnect the anti-roll bar. I may have a full set of springs but will have to check and also check if they are correct for a T32 should you need them give me a call.

What's a T32, I have a 1989 T2.5 'Westy' or 3, as it's also known, but I've never heard a a T32??
It’s the same load rating as say 3500 on a Motorhome but referd to as a T5 (or 4 or 6) max load is 3200.

Going for standard springs will make the Van look Ugly as the gap between the wheels and the wheel arches are too High and if the OP wanted to sell they would have to place the old springs back or it would look odd and detract from the value. Bouncy tyres are probably the way to go. I have Lowering springs on my transporters and never find them too harsh.

You will often find German (sports) cars have a harsher ride
