We would like to visit the Alhambra mid March next year. We thought we would visit the castle one day and then the following day visit Granada. Could anyone recommend a campsite within cycle/bus distance to the castle? Thanks for reading this.

Can't help with the question but to say that your in for a treat. We visited last May while the area was still isolated and so had a visit with very very few others. Brilliant place !

Sorry but can't help with any sites for Alhambra but would suggest you buy your ticket at least the day before and preferably for as early morning as possible to avoid any crowds. It's a magical place

Couple of ACSI sites close, with bus service to Granada, sorry can’t remember their names, but staff very helpful, bus stops in Granada, then change bus to go to Alhambra.

We stopped at an ACSI site a few km out of Granada, with a spectacular bus ride in. We loved Granada, but couldn't get out of the Alhambra quickly enough! I know it's beautiful & spectacular, but it was just so busy and crowded to enjoy. Each to their own.

We were there March 2019. Very quiet that time of year hence ticket on the day no problem!
we stayed at the Acsi site a few miles north of Granada

Camping Alto de Viñuelas Cat.2

An unpretentious and peaceful campsite. Attractively laid out terraces. Lovely views of the Sierra Nevada. Good local cuisine. The bus to Granada stops outside the campsite. 2 euros charged for a trailer. More than one pet charged at 1 euro extra.
the bus takes you to the bus station and then you can either walk from town up to the Alhambra or take a bus. Walk not too bad if fit!

you will enjoy the experience

We stayed at Camping Alto de Vinuelas (ACSI 2553 in 2021 book); first van on left. Views of snow topped mountains. Bus stops outside for Granada.

At that time of year, and with good weather, you should have an unforgettable experience. As above, book tickets beforehand and aim for earlier in the day rather that later to avoid any crowds.

When the kids had recently flown the nest, and we were feeling a bit flush, myself and wife toured Spain by motorcycle staying almost exclusively in the Parador hotels (sounds expensive but at the time 4/5 Star Paradors and Pousadas in Portugal worked out at not much more than decent B&Bs back home). We had 3 memorable nights at the Parador de Granada situated inside the Alhambra complex, so were free to roam much of it after visitors had gone for the day. If you want you can join a guided party to visit, but we found a decent guidebook was just as good to ensure nothing was missed. Don’t forget to include the Generalife palace and gardens in your visit as it is an excellent place to relax, unwind and cool down among the water features - they also hold evening concerts and other performances there in the evening, so it’s worthwhile checking the website to see what’s scheduled.

I’d recommend reading ‘Tales of the Alhambra’ by Washington Irvine before going.

Definitely book in advance to avoid the queues and delays as they only let so many in at a time, you can also leave it and go back in later which is what we did going back to our camper for lunch and sort the dogs out. We had parked in a small area across form the external gardens near a hotel and stopped for the night but its not somewhere anything other than a PVC will be able to stay and the street down is NARROW ... we only just got through due to the metal barriers/railings at a pinch point with a bit of an 'S' bend, anything longer than 6m wouldn't have got through either as we only just missed them when turning - we don't mind tight squeezes but this is one that we won't ever attempt again and wouldn't have in the first place if there had been another way out!

As far as I'm aware, from my memory of many years ago, all the campsites around Granada can book a ticket for you. There's also, normally, a bus from the campsite to within a short distance of the Alhambra.

We stayed at an ACSI site, Camping Reina Isabel. The campsite arranged our tickets to Alhambra. There is a bus stop right outside the site for the bus into Granada centre. (think we had to change buses but it was simple). Like you, we did Alhambra one day and Granada the next. We then left the mh and trailer at the campsite and spent 4 nights at a hotel in the Sierra Nevada for some skiing. Enjoy.

You may find some useful tips on this earlier thread. https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/alhambra.190105/#post-3172339

Glad we stayed on a campsite (we usually avoid), as we felt leaving our MoHo there and getting a cheap bus ride into Granada was safer than parking at the Alhambra. After our day there, with two other MoHo couples we had an evening in several Tapas Bars for supper in Granada before getting the bus back to the campsite. A “free” and large tapas served with a glass of wine seemed to be the norm in Granada and we enjoyed some of the best Tapas we have found anywhere in Spain. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the info. We’ve booked a stay at the Camping Las Lomas and our entry tickets, looking forward to an early morning bus ride:giggle:.
