You don't need anything else, these work both ways so if either battery is being charged it will connect/charge the other. Caveat, these won't work if one battery is lithium, that's a much bigger discussion.
google is your best friend

The Cyrix Battery Combiner is a microprocessor controlled heavy duty relay that automatically connects batteries in parallel when one of them has reached a pre-set voltage (indicating that the battery is being charged), and disconnects when the voltage decreases below float level (indicating that one or more batteries are being discharged). Cyrix Battery Combiners are an excellent replacement for diode isolators. The main feature is that there is virtually no voltage loss so that the output voltage of alternators or battery chargers does not need to be increased.

Had it in my head that this unit would charge the starter battery once the leisure batteries where full from solar is this true or do I need something else.

Exactly the opposite, the starter alternator will charge your house batteries when the starter is charged by alternator.
For charging the starter from house batteries, you will need a battery master.

What would be your best advice to buy please

hard to answer without knowing what you have, if you have solar you could fit a controller that does both

I didn’t know it works both ways. My assumption it was one way. If it is as Dodgey says, then you don’t need a battery master as I suggested.

THESE instruction would indeed suggest/confirm that it is a two way battery combiner as stated by Dodgey so my first job would be to check that all connections are as they should be and that fuses are OK.
