I am planning to change the standard steering wheel to one with controls together with a new squib (clock spring).
Has anyone done this and can advise the correct procedure as I don’t want to create any problems with the Fiat electrics.
I did find an excellent tutorial on doing this but have been unable to find it again.

It’s either too straight forward to need comments or it’s too difficult!

I'd probably go with the latter

Never done it, but it sounds to me like it might be a whole world of problems ?

I have no knowledge of this, other than from tapping into my existing steering wheel controls with a Connect adapter to link to my Pioneer aftermarket head unit. I think the wires I had to link to were in cables going into the body computer module, so unless your Fiat is pre-equipped with the required wiring then it will be very difficult. Even if the wiring is there you might still need the functionality enabled in the vehicles software.

I would say it is not worth the cost and bother, but then I don't use the phone and hardly ever listen to music while driving, so very rarely use these controls.

I am unsure if Fiat upgrades need coding or are plug and play.
Gendan sell the diagnostic kit and should be able to advise you as to what would be required.

I personally find the steering wheel control for the radio to be about the worst I've ever used, but the ones for making / receiving calls aren't too bad.

Might be worth trying them before going down a potentially difficult and expensive route only to find out you're not happy with the result.

If I'm honest I almost never use mine - even for calls.

I have done a lot of internet searching and have watched various videos but just wondered if anyone here had done it.
If/when I have changed the wheel I will post here the outcome.
