The French aire operators, Camping-Car Parks have had an app available for a while but it was a pretty clunky thing. They have now updated it and first impressions are it is a big improvement. If you search in the Play Store on Android for "Camping-car Park" it is the dark blue one shown in this screenshot.

There is I assume an iOS version in the Apple play store. If you already have the earlier version the button will say update instead of install.

On opening it, the link to "Areas" takes you to a map where you can see the aires and clicking on one will show how many places are available. It seems much more responsive than the earlier version.

There are of course plenty of other aires in France and some of them free but the CCP Aires can be useful at times, in our experience.

I downloaded it on my iPad and it’s pretty good, a great improvement over using the web site on the iPad. We’re currently on a CCP, and heading to another tomorrow on the coast - unless that one gets too busy. Using the app makes checking up availability on an aire much simpler.

I downloaded the Android version and got a French langauge app. Is there an English version?
Click the account button at the bottom of the page, it has the symbol of a head and shoulders. You can then change your language.

These are screenshots of the pages, yours will be in French of course. 😀

Downloaded the app and had a browse :giggle:. I found it very easy to use, but I now feel totally frustrated that I can't go to France :(. I particularly like the ability to search the map for nearby locations.

We like Camping-Car Parks. They tend to be in good locations and are generally well-maintained.

Tunnel booked for 21st August and keeping our fingers crossed.

Downloaded too.
Another string to our bow with a few more options when on the road.
I like the number of pitches and the number free. Even if you don’t book a pitch you know that the aire won’t be full when you arrive.
Thanks for the 'heads up' John. (y)

Richard.

We're off to France tomorrow and like the look of these sites and the app. How do we go about getting an etap card when we are there?

As posted by klaatu

The first time you arrive the machine will offer you a card. You use your debit/credit card to “pre-load” it with as much as you wish and the card is issued.

At further visits you just use their card.

If your credit runs low the machine will show you and you just use your debit/credit card to top up again. The system works well.

As I remember your payment covers 24 hrs but, if you want to leave to visit somewhere and return within that period, you enter that into the machine as you leave and it ensures that a space is kept for you. It may not be the space you previously occupied, especially if it was a “good” one.

A few of the smaller sites don't have a card issuing machine but most do. Getting the card is in theory easy but there are a few pitfalls. :) First, ensure you choose a language you can understand, I suspect I could probably just about do it in French but Dutch would be fun! :) I suggest choosing English is probably best.

When the machine eventually spits out a card there is another important step. You have to "validate" it. I think this the process where the plain vanilla card is linked to your account - which you will have set up getting to this point. I can't remember exactly how to do this, it was some time ago when I did it, but I think you just have to put the card against the keypad or some other point on the machine. The instructions were a bit vague but they might be better now. What I would strongly suggest is don't try any of this if strong sun is shining on the screen. A few of them are almost impossible to read when this happens.

If you get stuck call the number on the machine, it will connect you to a human speaking good English.

Happy camping! :)

I do like their Aires always well maintained and on occasion you meet one of their Ambassadors which is a nice personal touch.
I went the with the Privileges option I do like the option of guaranteeing a Pitch for the occasion we are in a busy area or time.
I realise lots of people won’t use Camping Car Parks because of the cost and it suits me as many of them wouldn’t be a neighbour of choice anyway.

l had to do this a while back l had credit on my account but the machine was playing up, worried l wouldn’t get out as this is when the payment is taken l phoned the number, a very pleasant conversation followed and though l cannot remember how we actually resolved it the barrier opened and off we trotted.
It’s a fact that this voice/contact is available 24/7 In the event you have a problem with anything regarding Payment,Water,Electric,Waste Disposal in addition to the cost of the actual Pitch this is what you are also paying for and it has a value.

We have been using a few of the aires whilst travelling about mainly for an electric topup and wifi or because they are in the centre of towns meaning it’s nice to explore and have a beer.
Great concept 👍

Thanks for this DBK i have just downloaded it and set up an account.
I won’t buy the card or load up the account with Euros until I know when I am next going abroad.

Whilst searching the AppStore for this, I noticed another App called Stellplatz (green icon image of a Motorhome) so I downloaded that App as well.
It’s not bad for Germany but if I’m honest, I prefer Camper Contact than this Stellplatz.
Thanks for the Camping Car Park app.

I’d love to register but the ‘register’ button is not allowing me to - any ideas? I’m on an iPhone. Thanks.

I've had a similar problem on another website where it wouldn't let me register using a phone, an Android one in this case. I had to come home and use the PC. :)

Thanks DBK
We are downloading it as I speak, trying to register the app, got down to select your region/country and now both swearing at lot at the I Phone Screen  The scroll list of countries dives everywhere when scrolling, cannot get it to stop in one place to select, before it jumps somewhere else in the alphabet!
These things are surely sent to try us, especially when touring and needing it in the van, maybe its a hint to stay at home, The French dont want us yet.:giggle:
Patience is a virtue, so they say.

All done now, but very frustrating.
Has anyone bought a card yet?'
I see we are being offered Pack Privilages @29 Euros, for all singing and dancing valid for life, pre booking, memorises all the places you have stayed at etc
OR
Pass Etapes @5 Euros which is we think is the price of the card, you then load the card with dosh before using it, access 24/7, access to 200 plus areas.

We have the basic card, don't use their sites very often only if they are where we need to be as they are a bit pricy. I just top it up when we arrive put on enough for one night to gain entry then top up with what's needed when we leave.

I would just go for the five euro membership first and the basic membership. Upgrade if you need to later - which will cost 24 euros. I upgraded in February this year because a limitation of the basic is you are limited to a maximum of 3 days at any one aire. This hasn't been an issue as we tend to move about but I thought I might as well go for it prior to our subsequently cancelled trip in the Spring. :)
