Unbelievable

Everything is getting expensive.

Just have to wait till the staycation boom is over. Prices will sort themselves out again. Nobody is going to pay the prices some are asking.

A mate hired a 3 bed holiday let in Ramsgate for a week last summer, 2.5k!

As soon as things get to the new normal and the travel restrictions ease, there will be a lot of empty UK space at those prices.

August innit? Hardly surprising there are greedy businesses out there preying on peoples desire to holiday. Not a problem for me as Im neither desperate enough nor stupid enough to pay that kind of money. In august for a night or two I'll happily wild camp or use an aire if I can't find a reasonable CL assuming I bother renewing my CAMC membership due the month before.

Knaresborough CAMC in August wants £40 as night gulp 😡😡😡
The trials and tribulations of having a bar and restaurant on site and during peak season.

The new site at Cayton Village is even more expensive @ £41 \ night at the same time and doesn't have a bar \ restaurant!

Ramsgate for 2.5k

I'm guessing that was the week of the Royal Open Golf at St Georges in Sandwich.
In which case he got it cheap.

We know of a 6 bedroom house in Sandwich which went for £10k that week.
Even a 2 up 2 down in Broadstairs was well over a grand.
It's all about supply and demand, like the airlines the FHL (holiday rental) companies use 'dynamic pricing'.
The more people that look and book, the higher the price goes.

Most UK holiday lets are already full for the end of July and all August 22, the camp sites will follow.

Prices will not be falling for high season in 2024, as by that time the €/£ exchange rate will make the UK cheap for Europeans (and the EU expensive for Brits), so if you were thinking of buying a field with a sea view, I'd go ahead!

If the higher pitch fees per night include unlimited 16A EHU that is going to look like a bargain in 2022 due to rising energy costs. I don't think the Club is profiteering. It must be a difficult exercise to predict what the costs will be before fixing prices for the year to come.

The pitch fees include VAT at 20% so for now you actually pay reduced fees on arrival when the VAT is adjusted.

Club membership showed a net overall increase in 2020 but due to the lockdowns and corresponding fall in revenue from sites the Club made an overall loss of £10 million. The Accounts are in the October 2021 Club Magazine.

It is relatively easy to install a micro meter on each pitch.

We went to a CL site on Romney Marsh last summer where each pitch got a certain amount of electricity as part of the pitch price which was fine if you were only running the fridge and lights

However if you then ran the electrical heater, aircon, cooker, hairdryer and the film projector, then you paid (20p from memory) per KW over your limit.

It worked for us.

What do you base this assumption on?

Apart from a spike in 2015 it seems the exchange rate has been pretty much flat over the last 10 years.

Even if the exchange rate dropped from €1.20 to €1.15 then this is 4% and would make the £2.5K Ramsgate rental only £102 cheaper. I don't think this will suddenly cause a mass influx of EU tourists.

I suspect the exchange rate will reach parity at some point in the next 4-5 years.
In which case a 15-20% drop in costs (not just the rental, it's the food, the beer, and all the other things) could make the UK attractive for northern EU citizens to visit (and discourage UK residents from leaving)

It would also play into the Exchequers hands, as the less Brits that holiday abroad (and the more tourists that come in) the better it is for the government coffers, which have not been as empty as they are now in a generation.

For many years it's been the same rapid increase for boat moorings and berths in marinas which have come under pressure from the Birmingham Navy and the nouveau riche.

Are you going to put your money where your mouth is and by lots of €s ?

£/€ hit €1.20 this morning having slowly ticked up over the last few months.

I've still got some from when it was 1.34, I hope they haven't needed changing to newer issue? :giggle:

I'm very seriously tempted to get five hundred or a grand's worth as it's getting naff all interest in the bank. Trouble is that I rarely carry/use cash.

No wonder most on here can’t wait to get back to ACSI / Aire land
We take our July/August holidays in Aire/Camperstopland here in Spain....if we had to pay £40 a night it wouldn't be on a small patch of grass or gravel, but I suppose many have to do it to provide a holiday for their family..

I’m booked for 3 nights in the summer, we normally go a couple of times a year so likely to go again around October.

A good reason to use an account like Revolut..
 I'll have to find out what that is.
(Off to Google now...................).

10 mins later.....
Ah, it seems I have to use an app (and an iPhone which I don't have or want) so that's a no-go then. I'll stick with cash.

That was 7 years ago 😳

Yes, 2014/15's about right, when I went to Portugal for the winter. The pound had just dropped so I thought I had better grab a bundle and the gamble paid off! Only been over a few times since. :giggle:
