Hello there !
I’ve had a run of bad luck with tyres.
Recently my front tyre sustained irreparable damage due to a rock in the road. I limped into the local tyre shop and I was told that I had to change both front tyres even though the remaining one was in good condition, only 3 years old with less than 25% wear. The reason was that the date codes being 3 years apart would cause problems with the annual ITV test. I didn’t have much option but to replace both.
Some weeks on I have the same problem on the front tyre with my wife’s car. On this occasion I was able to replace the front with the spare and took the irreparably damaged tyre to the same tyre shop where they quoted me to replace the one tyre without any questions.
I don’t want to buy two tyres but I don’t want problems come ITV time Question – do both tyres on an axle have to have the same date code, exactly the same amount of wear ?
FWIW. My car is RWD, my wife’s is FWD. They are not 4WD
Tyre manufacturers advise to replace both tyres on an axle particularly for 4WD.
Anyone any experience of this ? Thanks for your help.
