Following on from the "Tyre pressures - again!" thread, and thanks to the kindness of Funster 'Driventemple' who not only owns the Multiecuscan kit, but knows how to use it, I am now running my Ducato based 7.4m Tin Tent on 51/59psi instead of the 80 all round that Fiat thinks is appropriate.

The ride characteristics were noticeable different on a short run to its MoT, I look forward to forming a more considered opinion when we hit the French roads.

Thanks again, Trevor.

Which tyre's are they?
The ride characteristics is always going to be totally different on too flat tyres.
I would like to know how hot they get on a long run and the effect on LPG.

Interesting that you suggest that their tyres are 'too flat' without experiencing the effect yourself. I ran our Starline B640 with similar pressures from UK to Portugal via Croatia without noticing any local warming. We didn't get 'the shakes' quite so much either! Oh, and gas consumption wasn't affected! ;)

We're going on the 6th, if there is anything I think may be of interest, I'll post here. I'll also mention the tyres.

You say "too flat". Does that imply you think the pressures may be too low? I got conflicting information about what the pressures ought to be for the axle loadings I have, and in the end used TyreSafe, as there was consensus with what they say, and info gleaned from the Tyre manufacturers I contacted.

I'm pleased to hear it. I just can't understand why Fiat and Michelin tyre's would recommend much higher pressures than these 51-59 psi

What I was told, and there is no way of verifying it, was that Fiat, who are so used to commercial vans' rear axles being overloaded, took the easy and safe (legally) option of specifying high pressures. It makes no sense on a vehicle that has different axle loadings so have the same pressures on each axle,

As I understand it Michelin don't necessarily agree with Fiat, but the TPMS is under Fiat's control not theirs.
