I currently have 6 year old Michelin camper tyres that need replacing. I have run them at the pressure recommended by both Hymer and Michelin - namely 5.5 / 80 psi with a resulting harsh ride. I know many on the site run tyres at a much lower pressure without any ill effects and a get a better ride experience. I am awaiting a reply from Michelin regarding pressures for the Agilis Cross Climate tyres and they have asked a supplementary question regarding if the vehicle a van or a motorhome.

Tyres spec is 225/75 R16 116Q and I have said I only need C rated tyres. Declared weights as Front 1650 - Rear 1900kg.

Has anyone been given pressures for the Agilis Cross Climate tyre that would satisfy an insurance company?

I have checked the Tyre Pressures site and they are stating 65 front 80 rear for 116 and 118 load and much lower for a 120/121 load rating.

Thought and advice welcome.

I'd suggest 50/60 as your in quite a big tyre there.

Not sure if it would satisfy the insurance company though.

Cheers James

The reason I use Continental tyres on my motorhome is that, if you tell them your axle loads, they will give you a chart telling you what the front and rear pressures should be for that particular tyre. When I am fully loaded I run with 5.25 bar on the rear and 3.5 bar on the front. Much quieter and smoother than running on Hymer's or Fiat's figures

Just input some tyre data into the tyre safe calculator and got the following results:

Front Axil - 1650kg Rear Axil - 2000kg (Max axil loading as plated)

225/75 R16 116 load 48 front 80 Rear
225/75 R16 118/116 load 51 front 61 Rear
225/75 R16 121/120 load 51 front 59 Rear

Just been to ATS Tyres and they stock Michelin Agils Cross climate as the fit the to all the ambulances in Shrewsbury and Mid Wales. They run at about 4500kg amd love the tyres and use 60psi / 65psi!!!!!!!

So looking good for some 225/75 R16 118/116 rated running at 51/61 for a smooth ride!
Only trouble is they quoted me £758.82 (with a discount inc) for a set of 4 fitted.

Back to Mr Google to find a better price i think...........

I changed from rock hard 80psi Michelin Campers to Continental 4Seasons because, like peterc10 said, there's a Continental published handbook that states your tyre pressures for a given tyre model, size and axle load. I'm now running low 50s and it's far more comfortable.

Mich agilis x climate 225/75 r16 118 x 4 fitted at qwik Fit £594 on line price with 15% discount for 4.

Anyone found cheaper?

For information, I fitted Michelin cross climates and requested tyre pressures from Michelin. They declined referring me to the vehicle manufacturer!!

Just booked to have 225/75R16 118 fitted by Kwik fit mobile at just under £600

Just had a quote from Kwik Fit for 4 tyres as above inc 15% discount £699 surprised it varies so much between areas/branches.
Also would need to check they had metal valves before attending as quote is for standard valve stems.
When needed I will look elsewhere I think.

Les, If you go on line and put in the discounts code (15% for Michelin) you get the better quote. It does include all the extras such as balancing, valves and old tyre disposal. QwikFit site not the easiest to navigate until it does! They seem to have a strange business model as you can not get the lower price from the garages, just on line. You can however book the day and time for the fitting and opt for a free visual break check and battery test. I saved £164 over the best ATS price. Some are saying ASDA on line can be cheaper.

Thanks TeamBandS it would seem that there site is not working today as error 500 comes up when you click on date and select time for appointment, at all branches mentioned as local ones, plus the fit at home service.
I assumed selecting 4 tyres would auto apply the 15% discount but now realise that's not the case.
I think you have to book appt, fill in all our name & address details, then I guess at the payment stage, somehow apply the MIKWIK+Free Speaker ((what ever that is).
Obviously in just getting a price I dont want to go that far, so will just have to presume that the £699 price is before the discount, whereas before I naturally assumed having selected 4 tyres that it had been applied.
You are totally correct about different higher prices in the branch, as I was in there a few weeks back getting the cars tracking checked, and they quoted me £220 for Michelin Agilis Camper Tyre at the time.
The manager behind the counter, although a helpful chap, did say "well camper tyres are not our main market, and any how we wouldn't be able to fit your van on our ramps"
Best wishes.

Les, Most Qwik Fit centers do not have ramps big enough but my local one agree to change the tyres outside with no issues.
