MH
Van conversion
Hi,
We are starting to wonder about fitting a TV on our new conversion. Have heard about satellites etc but what’s the reception and choose of channels really like when your in a different country? Also, with the tablet and laptop, Netflix etc is the TV used much at all?
A bit hesitant about drilling a hole in the roof what with tree branches and leaks

After expecting we would add a TV to our MH we've found a tablet & streaming works for us.

forget an aerial or satellite dish as it is hit and miss. use an amazon firestick and use data to stream using your phone. With the right apps, you get full uk tv worldwide
Including Netflix, Amazon and Now if you have the subscriptions! Isn’t life great 👍

Ditto, unless you are planning to spend lots of time in the shrunken Astra footprint.

If you do go down the route of data streaming you'll need to ensure you've got decent signal access (possibly external aerial with a hole in the roof) and factor in the ongoing costs as opposed to upfront costs only for satellite.

Using internet for stuff is great if you've got plenty of data but if not then you could just watch pre-downloaded stuff or DVDs etc.

If you want to watch local TV though you'll need an aerial and a way to connect it to your laptop (WinTV unit for example). It's really down to what you want to watch, where and for how long.

Just to add, you don't have to have a permanently fixed aerial, you could have one that attaches to the side of your MH/camper with a sucker, then you just need to feed the cable in through a window or alternatively put in an external connection for it and one on the inside too.

Additionally we’ve had good success preloading / downloading content to watch before leaving home.
Several media apps let you watch downloaded content offline.
Amazon Prime and Sky apps we’ve used,
There’ll be some subscription free ones with d/l options too but untested by us 😉

edit. Doh! You said same. I latched onto the dvd comment. Sorry.

Ditto, we removed our snipe satellite setup.

Data is a killer though, 3GB per hour for HD and 1GB for standard definition, the trouble is some apps don't let you pick video quality and just default to HD. We've found coverage is pretty good although we have got external antennas.

We live in and have got an internet box that takes multiple SIM cards (as I need a decent connection for work), one is unlimited with three for £20 p/m the other 100GB with O2 for £15 p/m I think.

All depends on how much TV you want to watch and what you want to watch!

You could always talk to each other, I didn’t even take the satellite dish or tv aerial when we where in France/Switzerland last week.
Am thinking about the fire stick though when it’s on sale again.

Nearly got confused with thread on noisy tv. Some may say that's not difficult these days!!!!

So was going to add, if the weather is good we sit outside and read for a bit and play cards/board games, (specially in France where its warm till late) In Uk may watch TV after its a tad cool outside or Hissing down.

When the Kids were with us TV was taboo. often had half the kids on a site playing Cricket or Football or anything else we could think of to keep them amused out of doors and without TV.

Nothing to add to what has been said. I took the satellite dish off ours as it was hardly ever used and anyway it broke (3 times actually before I refused to spend any more money). Got a nice chunk of payload back too, surprising how heavy sat dishes with all the gubbins can be.
