i'm trying plan our route back from spain to the tunnel and would appreciate some advice on possible routes.
We're currently at Bonterra and might move on but not too much further so my next thought is to stop at zaragoza.
From there i'm not sure whether to head for San Sebastian or Pau ?
Ideally i dont wanna be driving all day and would prefer proper sites overnight rather than car parks .
We were comfortable on motorways all the way down so we didnt get too lost .
We dont have snow tyres, socks or chains so realise this might limit our options.

Thanks in advance .

I always go lorca, valencia, sagunt, teruel, Zaragoza, Huesca, jaca, som´port tunnel ,pau up to Langon, Cadillac, Bordeaux , angouleme, poitiers, tours, vendone, chartres, dreux, evereux, rouen, abbeville then I use the D928 across to St.Omer left on D300 down to dunkerque. I return home the same way

If no snow stuff then I would give Somport a miss. French side is trickier than Spanish although they are good at snow clearance I have been told. Earliest we have done that route is Mid March and latest October. From the border at Irun the 121a is a good run to Pamplona and heavily used by HGV’s so we have never had an issue that way.

How about;
Camping Larrouletta
210 Route de Socoa,
Urrugne.
France

It's an ACSI site, (19€) right on the border twixt France and Spain.
Coords are; N43.370496, W1.686143
Well used by folks going back and forth to and from Spain. It's open all year.

The altitude is more or less sea level and you would be going around the Pyrenees rather
than going over the top of them by going to Pau.

A lot of that rings a bell from our journey down (y) . Do you drive that route in your MH or car ?

Going back about 12 yrs ago, I went from Larrouletta to Benicassim in the one day
in Winter tugging a 7.00+mts caravan with an Audi.

If I were to repeat today it wouldn't worry me at all in the 'van.

Agreed - we always stay there unless weather is very sunny when we stay near St Jean de Luz. Larrouleta has a small heated pool if you are feeling brave! Also large supermarket which can be got to by a footpath ( 1 mile away?) although we usually use the van and stock up there. They have ATM’s too and a fuel station, although Spain probably cheaper and not far away.
you probably know this but use the autoroute along that coast - even in winter the N road is slow. The autoroute has been upgraded to minimum 3 lanes in that area.

Gus-lopez - top man (y)

Hi David and thank you , we did the 121 pamplona route on the way here so if thats the best route back then thats the way we'll go (y).
Emmit - thank you for your help with this also Larrouleta was our first 'proper' site that we really liked so more than happy to include it again 😁.
Although we paid €28 p.n.
Yep E leclerc is my new favourite shop

The comments on the other thread did remind me that Larrouleta is busy at almost all times of year and last March we booked for our return en route to be safe! When busy you do get prats but in truth that is the same at any busy campsite. The Arguedas aire is lovely but for us more of an early summer aire than a winter one. If you do use it look at Google earth with care as it is easy to end up in the maze that is the little town - the Aire is on the edge of town.

Hi Speve , we'd never heard of these until last month when we embarked on our adventure.
We used a couple coming through but with no facilities at all so weren't great for a first timer .....we're a little more prepared on the way home 🤞

At this time of year for not too longer drives I would do as above from Zaragoza to camping Larrouleta then up to Bordeaux area, have stoped Camping Bel Air not sure when open though. Then Camping Les Accasias open all year at Tours then Rouen but again not sure what’s open, Camp Eure is closed but Aire adjacent.

Why not consider the Med route if you're going to the tunnel?

I think the AP7 is now toll free so you can go as far as you want before overnighting, but eventually cross the border at La Jonquera.
Down to Perpignan and Narbonne then depending on the weather either .....

Bad weather
Carcassonne, Castelnaudery, Toulouse, then A20 (mostly free) motorway to Vierzon, Orleans, Chartres, Dreux, Evereux, Rouen, Abbeville, Calais.

Good weather...
Beziers, then free (except Millau Bridge) motorway, A75 to Clermont Ferrand, then A71 to Vierzon.etc etc.

Most toll motorways in France have National roads shadowing them so you can choose which you want.

Good Luck!
