Has anyone had a problem towing a car in France recently? Because it's permitted in UK (sort of, but that's a totally different can of worms), it was tolerated in EU countries (apart from Spain and Germany) when we were in the EU because there was an agreement that what was permissible in the parent country was accepted by the host country. I'm sure that agreement will have lapsed and I wonder what the current situation is. Please only respond with post Brexit experiences.

We always got away with it pre Brexit. In fact we once had the local gendarmerie come over to ask us how it all worked. Just wanted to know if attitudes had changed.

I don't think much has changed generally reading posts from recent visitors 😊.

When our friends towed their toad using an A frame, two Gendarmes turned up and we’re obviously discussing it. We offered them “a cuppa” non merci ensued and they departed without a fuss. Mon Dieu !
They de coupled in Spain and she drove the car and him the Motorhome. Too much palava I say.

Used frequently in East Anglia, ooh ahrrg.
As Stephen Fry observed wryly on 'QI', 'Norfolk, where, at a wedding, when the Photographer calls for the Parents of the Bride & of the Groom, only 2 people step forward ...' ;). Such celebrations are relatively boring, I tend to find, whereas the AGM of the local Necrophilia Society is dead boring ...

Always been illegal in France but the French see breaking laws as a target, so lots of French do it.
If your other half is OK with driving the car for the rest of the trip if you get stopped you should be OK.

Thanks Lenny. Your assessment of the French attitude to regulations is spot on which is why they have never taken to cricket. Don't know how hard it is to cheat at Boules! It's probably guillotinable.

Apart from the last 18 months we have done a lot of travelling within France, but it must be some years since I last saw a French-registered camping car with a toad. There are many with a car on a trailer, though.
