We have a 2018 Hymer MLT 570 on a Mercedes Sprinter base.
Has anyone had a tow bar fitted to a MLT or a MLI ?

If so, who did you get to do it ?

Our local and large towbar fitting outfit (Trident of Kent) have declined without even taking a look, and are unable to recommend any other company.

The 4x4 version of our van, and the newer Crossovers, which are basically the same van/layout, but use the 2020 onwards new Sprinter base have the option of having a tow bar fitted.
So the fitting does exist.
But other than contacting Hymer, who will no doubt charge a figure with a comma in it, just for the parts, does anyone know of anyone that would quote to fit a towbar.
I don't know if it's a standard Mercedes van part or not.

Bit far away from you but contact Mick Parkinson in Freckleton ( Near Preston) custom made, stop over and *do* Blackpool and the Fylde, the illuminations start at the end of the month Search him in the search engine for reviews by funsters

We will be in Preston in October, So it could be an option

Best bet is to send him an e mail, or call his mobile, if you ring him on the landline and *mum* picks the phone up its not guaranteed that she will remember to pass the message on . He used to offer a car for the day so you could explore the area but there are good transport links in the area anyway.

FYI for anyone reading this in the future.

The part is not a standard Mercedes Sprinter tow bar bracket.

P F Jones, who are based in Wigan, Manchester and Stoke, but also have mobile tow bar fitters all over England and Wales apparently will fit one, but have asked for photos before they quote.

If I go ahead I'll fill in cost and who did it.

I saw an ml-t today with a towbar fitted , unfortunately forgot my phone so no photo , i cant remember the makers name but the model number was 057 .
i might have to go back down th village and see if its still there lol

Went doon the village but it was gone, hopefully will see it about, have an old autotrail cherokee t4 based with a large overhang and want to put a tow bar on it, the Ml-t has a similar length overhang so was interested in finding out specs

I'll continue reading the comments, but in the meantime. We have just bought mlt 570 experience rear wheel drive and we want to fit tow bar for bike rack. Did you happen to get yours done. By who? And How's it been?
Thanks in advance.

Give Hedley’s in Durham a call. They are highly rated and I believe will design and manufacture something if necessary.

My 2015 Hymer MLI came with a factory fitted tow bar. It added 63kg to the vehicle weight which I think was mostly because it involved an extra section of rear chassis below the garage to connect with the base chassis.

We are 4100kg so all 👍

I have the chassis extension but no towbar. Means I can carry a hypothetical 450kg weight in the garage.

Brella Well here we are 3 years later.

I did get a tow bar fitted to my 2018 Mercedes Hymer MLT 570
(using standard LWB Mercedes Sprinter parts)
I had it done by LWB Towbars in Bristol, who unfortunately closed down last year (Owed HMRC too much money).

What my research, at the time (2022) showed is the number of companies that specialise on fitting towbars to motorhomes in the UK can be put on one hand. The only other real specialist I could find was Armitages of Yorkshire

Due to a part arriving broken, (no fault of LWB) I actually ended up spending two nights at LWB
(They had their own 'Aire' with all the facilities) I therefore spent several hours in the office,
I heard the sales team decline to fit tow bars to a number of vehicles (especially Ford transit base), due to the plated weight and/or engine power.

I suspect most other tow bar fitting operations would not be nearly so diligent, and simply fit what the customer asked for.

Hi Brella. We’ve just bought an MLT 570 xperience and got a quote of €3500 for fitting the alko chassis extension and towbar.
Have you managed to get yours done ?

No we haven't had any quotes. We are going to keep the bikes in the garage for the time being. We may seek advice next year. Who did you get your quote off please?

That's ridiculous! 😒
You can buy those Alko chassis tow bars for around 350 quid! I had one in a shed that i had removed from a previous van years ago & fitted it myself in about an hour, they are adjustable to suit your chassis width etc and theres loads of factory holes already in the chassis for adding stuff, I didn't bother with the electrics but again they're cheap to buy and connect up, I wanted it really for rear protection or getting pulled out of a shuck lol (we're a 4x4 Hymer) but you could stick a push bike or 2 on it if you wanted no problem

Thanks. I agree it’s an awful price so I’m looking elsewhere now.

A motorhome workshop in France. I’ve sourced a supplier now on the internet so will send it to you when I receive the spec & quote.
